My allergic dog has swollen eyes and keeps licking her rear.

I recommend bathing her with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to try to soothe her skin. If this does not resolve her itching, then you will need to contact her veterinarian. My best guess from your description is that she could be suffering from an allergic reaction. The problem with allergic reactions is that they could cause her face and muzzle to swell, leading to breathing difficulties and respiratory distress. This can be fatal, and so she does need treatment from a vet now. I would check to see if there is an ER vet clinic in your area to bring her into now. I’m so sorry to hear about Poppy! Red, runny eyes and licking at anus make me think allergies (which can developer at any age). The enlarged lymph node in the leg could be many things: normal, a reaction to a cut in the foot, cancer, or other. Same for the low white cell count. Depending on how low it is, it could be normal for Poppy, or indicate an infection or inflammation. As a side note, be sure she is licking at the anus and not the Vulva. If licking at the vulva I am concerned for: being in heat, UTI, uterine infection (pyometra) or other. Overall, my rule of thumb is “attitude and appetite”. If Poppy is happy, playful, eating, drinking and using the bathroom well, then there is no need to panic immediately, though I would still take her in if not improving in 48 hours. This is why you are not able to wash her coat clean. The cause of her itching needs to be identified and controlled. Then she will stop licking allowing the skin to heal. She could have an allergy to something in her environment, diet or even to fleas. Anal gland issues can cause irritation in the same area. She will need to see her veterinarian to determine the best course of treatment. The cough can be addressed at the same visit. She may have an upper respiratory tract infection or be irritated from all the hair from licking. In the meantime, place an E-collar on her to prevent further licking. I hope this information helps!
