My toy poodle's adult tooth ripped out! What should I do now?

I can’t be totally certain but the picture appears that the little front teeth (incisors) are adult teeth. But the canines are baby teeth. And by the looks of the little bulges, the adult canines will be erupting soon. Long story short, this was going to happen to this baby canine sooner or later anyway!. It does not hurt very much at all and will probably fall out completely (or he’ll swallow it) in the next day or so. There is no way you’d be able to knock out an adult canine with a rope toy. I would recommend a cold pack for 10 to 15 minutes 2 to 3 times per day until resolved. I would also feed only soft food. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! You can stuff a little bit of gauze into the hole to stop the bleeding, if Abby lets you. The tooth may have come out due to a tooth root abscess, or it may havee broken off or damaged the bone in which the tooth was sitting. I suggest you make an appointment with your vet to have her teeth and gums checked. If the bleeding does not stop shortly after putting the gauze into the cavity, or if Abby does not let you near the mouth, you should take her to the vet today to stop the bleeding.

A tooth falling out is definitely a concern and a sign of severe dental disease. While it is not an emergency tonight, I would recommend an evaluation by a veterinarian as he will likely need anesthesia for a full dental cleaning, dental x-rays and extractions of any diseased teeth.

They may fall out on their own, however, they should be removed by your veterinarian to prevent further pain. Ideally, dental x-rays should be done to confirm no remnants of the roots remain. This could lead to infection. Additionally, he is likely very painful and should get some form of prescription pain medication. If your veterinarian is unavailable, consider a visit to the nearest veterinary ER. Antibiotics may also be indicated.

Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do at home except apply some gentle pressure to stop the bleeding. If Louis's adult teeth are coming in and the puppy teeth are not falling out, they may have to be pulled. I would take him into a vet in the morning to have his mouth checked out and to discuss having his baby teeth removed. I hope this helps.

Imagine how you would feel if your tooth was ripped out. The only way to know for sure if there isn't any part of the root left is with dental x-rays, and he may need the hole stitched as well as antibiotics. He has to see the vet. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants.
