My dog was accidentally squeezed. Should I worry about injury?

Dachshunds can sure hurt their backs but honestly it is not that common to happen in a young 8 week old puppy. If he seems fine and not in pain then he is probably fine. When they injure their back they are very obviously in pain. If you are truly worried about Lenny there is no harm in having your vet check him out. I'm glad Hazel seems ok now. It's never wrong to restrict activity for a little bit if you suspect a possible injury. But if she is walking and acting fine I suspect she just has a mild strain right then. In general with dashchunds try to limit her jumping- stairs or ramps are great to help protect her back. And any time she may act sore in her back or wobbly get her straight to the vet.

While dachshunds are prone to back issues, particularly intervertebral disc disease (when the jelly like substance between the bones of the spine comes out and presses on the spinal cord), these issues typically arise in middle aged to older dogs. I recommend keeping a close eye on Candy Cane and having her evaluated by a vet if you notice that she is limping or not using one of her legs.

It sounds like you hurt him, or scarred him, but not likely that you caused any major damage if he went back to normal right away. I would check for an signs of bruising, redness, or swelling in the area. If you notice this, then you can apply ice to the area for 15 minutes twice a day to help relieve the swelling and pain. If Hachi is otherwise acting normal, then there's no need to worry at this time. Poor pup! I recommend resting Austin for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Ouch, poor Mimi! Given that she's been acting normally and sleeping since, I would not be worried about it. It probably hurt her and startled her to get hit, but if she was seriously injured, there would be signs such as abnormal behavior, difficulty walking, and blood from her nose among others. She's likely fine, but if you are very concerned, it's certainly ok to have her checked out by a vet :-)
