What commands should my 6-month-old puppy know & how much to feed?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 1) Come, stay, sit, give paw, leave it, look and walk nicely (heel) on a leash should be learned. At 6 months they may not be perfect but at that age they can know how to do them. 2) This depends on what you want out of her. Are you doing agility or obedience trials or hunting? If not, then I would say 2-5 mins is reasonable. At 6 months old I am not surprised she gets up. I would gradually increase the stay increments and realize she is still young and easily distracted. I would give her a break every 5-10 mins. If she gets up then bring her back to position and then slowly distance yourself. Start over in a sense, giving treats every 30 sec to a minute until you get to your desired distance. 3) I would only train for 30-40 mins with at least 2-3 breaks. How many times a day is your personal preference and how much time you have a day to dedicate to dog training. 2-3 times per day sounds reasonable. Personally I could only dedicate one time per day during the week. 4) I don't have advice here as I am not a dog trainer and I am not sure what you mean. I personally prefer the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends for puppies as they are generally inexpensive, are of great quality and dogs seems to love it. For the amount to feed her, I advice you follow the guidelines that you will find in the back of the bag. Keep in mind that you should get the puppy blend. Also, keep in mind that as she grows, you will notice in the back of the bag that it will advice you feed her more. When she becomes a year old, she should be switched to an adult diet. 1) how much should a puppy walk at almost 6 mo? I would take SIe on at least two walks a day. Getting her used to the leash is a good thing. You can do two 15 minute walks or even 3. The walks are great because it will get her energy out. 2) is Natures Recipe Puppy okay for her she loves it read a good brand Natures Recipe puppy is perfectly fine for her to eat. 3) how many people should she see a day she is a bit shy getting over it fairly quickly? Should she be greeted or just passing by counts? It is always a good idea to have people great her. Make sure they get down to her level and greet her. Having them offer her a treat or toy is also a good idea. You can always work with a trainer to help. 4) Should I spay her before or after 6 months? I recommend spaying her at 6 months. General obedience training is where to start. Once Koi learns to come, stay, down and heel you will have better control over her behavior. To get her to drop an item I like to teach the Drop command. Do this with a toy or ball. Toss the toy, call her and ask her to Drop the toy by having a yummy treat in your hand. She'll drop the toy to get the treat and then you can praise her and give another treat. Once she learns this command you should then be able to say Drop, and she should drop the item and come looking for a treat. Be patient with the training, she's a puppy. Don't chase her when she takes something she shouldn't as this will encourage her to make a game of it. Instead say Treat and throw a treat to her if she won't come. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Nova is adorable! Play biting is very normal in puppy-hood, though at 6 months this should be significantly improved or resolved. Never use your hands to play with her or rile her up. Only offer toys. The minute she gets crazy and starts lunging for your hands, etc you need to make her sit or lay down. Always have treats on you to reward her when she listens. If she is too worked up and not listening, put her in a 5 minute time out. Try to have a leash on her at all times, I really like the muzzle gentle leader harnesses as it allows great head control. That way you can easily pull her off you. She should know how to look and leave it on command. If you are reaching a plateau with training I recommend hiring a trainer to focus on your areas of concern. Professionals can really help when we have exhausted what we can do alone. Exercise is also important: frequent walks and play time or consider doggie daycare a few times per week. You need to get her wet food for large breed puppy, it may be one of the premium brands (Hill's, Royal, Eucanuba), but you can find something cheaper. If you use any of these food, you should not given any additional food supplements. Alternatively, you can cook food for the puppy. Mixture of cooked lean meat with rice, pasta and vegetables will be a good choice. In that case, you should add food supplements (from a pet shop or your vets) containing calcium and phosphorus. You can crate her if you have big enough cage.
