I think spending 30-60 minutes with her each day is good for general puppy training. You may have to split the times up in to smaller intervals to help keep her attention. As far as what you want to train her on all depends on what all you want her to do. I would definitely teach her to sit, stay, and lay. You can also teach her to properly walk on a leash. Some other tricks like shake and roll over, etc are also fun to teach. You can easily find the methods to teach them these easy commands at home. If the spray bottle technique does not work well, then leash training him and getting him trained with obedience commands is the next step. You need to train him to sit, stay, lie down, come, etc. This will give you better control over Blaze. I typically recommend having dogs like Blaze go to an obedience training course with a trainer to establish these commands. Once he learns these commands, you can command him to stop the behavior by distracting him with these commands. I hope this helps! Wow, she knows a lot, much more than most dogs her age. I don’t worry about the amount on the bag. If she eats enough to stay in good condition they I wouldn’t change anything. To teach Let Go I have her fetch something and have a tasty treat in your hand to give her. Then she’ll let go of the object to get the treat. Soon she’ll learn what you want and you won’t need the treat. She’s obviously smart so I recommend taking her to obedience classes and even dog Tricks class. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Nova is adorable! Play biting is very normal in puppy-hood, though at 6 months this should be significantly improved or resolved. Never use your hands to play with her or rile her up. Only offer toys. The minute she gets crazy and starts lunging for your hands, etc you need to make her sit or lay down. Always have treats on you to reward her when she listens. If she is too worked up and not listening, put her in a 5 minute time out. Try to have a leash on her at all times, I really like the muzzle gentle leader harnesses as it allows great head control. That way you can easily pull her off you. She should know how to look and leave it on command. If you are reaching a plateau with training I recommend hiring a trainer to focus on your areas of concern. Professionals can really help when we have exhausted what we can do alone. Exercise is also important: frequent walks and play time or consider doggie daycare a few times per week. Lots of questions! Good for you wanting to make the world a better place for dogs :) Always be willing to learn! Keep an open mind and soak up all the knowledge you can. The dogs will thank you for that. OK. Staying home alone is something that needs to be build up over time. If you are 3-4 hours and she is behaving and quiet and relaxed you're on the right track! Just keep building by adding 10-15 minute increments each time. My rule for kennel is their age in months plus 1=how many hours they should be able to be kenneled (after working up to it), to the max of 8 hours. Any longer than that and they need a break. Loose leash walking can be taught easiest on a harness. You can use treats or toys to encourage them to stay close to your side and focus on you. If they get pulling to hard I stop, wait till they look at me then take a step backward. This usually invites them into you, and they quit pulling. They also didn't gain any forward momentum, so they didn't accomplish anything by pulling. Keep working on this and the pulling should lessen. If you're in public and she is pulling, there is probably too much excitement and its overwhelming. Try giving more space and add distance between you and all the people. If she is bowing when she meets dogs, its usually a play bow or invitation to play. I would try to sign up for some puppy classes or find a group of friendly dogs to play with. Socializing is important for our dogs, just as much as us. And lastly, the grass. Keep her on a leash and simply restrict her access to people's lawns. Shorten the leash up when passing by and if you have to, pick up your pace walking. She will come right along with you. Of course, you can start her walk after she relieves herself at home and then hopefully she won't have to go again on her walk.
