How much food should my puppy eat and how often should I feed him?

I personally prefer the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends for puppies as they are generally inexpensive, are of great quality and dogs seems to love it. For the amount to feed her, I advice you follow the guidelines that you will find in the back of the bag. Keep in mind that you should get the puppy blend. Also, keep in mind that as she grows, you will notice in the back of the bag that it will advice you feed her more. When she becomes a year old, she should be switched to an adult diet. Every single brand/bag of dog food has a different amount of calories per cup of food. So, without knowing the exact food you are feeding I cannot tell you how much to feed him. I go by how hungry your puppy is not by the recommended amount of food on the bag. Young puppies need to eat more often so I feed three times daily. I would start with the amount on the bag. If he is starving at the next meal you are not feeding enough. He should be hungry at the next meal and just finish the food. Increase the amount as needed to keep him from being too hungry. As he grows up he will stop being hungry at the mid day meal so you can stop that. I continue to feed two meals dail for the rest of his life. Yes you need to increase the amount of food at each feeding until he’s not so hungry. Feed him four times a day if needed to fill him up. Puppies rarely get too fat so give him enough food so he’s not starving. The amount on the bag is just a guideline. Pups that are more active and growing fast will eat more. Feed more food! Make sure Simba gets a good quality, commercially prepared puppy food (not food for active adults). Start by feeding the recommendation labeled on the bag, but if he wants more he can have more. Also, make sure that Simba doesn't have diarrhea and that he has been appropriately dewormed.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Charlie needs around 300-400 calories per day for his weight and age (considering he is a puppy) so I would adjust the cups per day keeping this in mind. As he continues to get older and his weight increases, I would recommend continuing to follow the instructions on the food package label. However, because her weight will be changing continuously as she grows. The best way to know the amount of food to be fed is following the recommendations found in the back of the bag or their website based on the age and weight at each time.
