Why is my dachshund lethargic, vomiting, and having loose stools?

I am concerned that he may be dealing with a systemic illness such as liver disease or kidney disease or an infection. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would initiate a bland diet of chicken and rice and also add in a probiotic such as Purina fortiflora which can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. With such vague signs, there is no way for us to predict online where the source of his discomfort his. I recommend a full physical by your vet to investigate the source of his pain and discomfort and advise on the most appropriate treatment. Keep him warm and well rested and offer pedialyte, fresh water and small meals of warm, bland food until you can arrange an appointment

Hello and thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear Texas is not feeling very well. Vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, and decreased appetite are very concerning signs and have many causes behind them. Infectious causes, internal organ dysfunction, or a foreign body or GI obstruction could be at play. Texas is really better off in the care of a veterinarian today as a veterinary hospital will be able to diagnose and treat Texas effectively and give him the proper care he needs. If a vet isn't an option, there are not a lot of home treatments for these symptoms. Try and keep Texas hydrated to offering water to him frequently and offering him unflavored pedialyte in his water may help as well as feeding him a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Dexter evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Hi. Poor dexter. I don't know if it's just him normally or not, but his back seems arched. He seems guarded. I'd get him checked out to have his tummy, back, and analysis glands checked. Good luck.

This sounds like he’s in pain. He may have eaten something that upset his stomach and has intestinal cramping. Or since he’s still a pup I’m worried he may have eaten a toy or sock that could cause an intestinal blockage. If this continues I would certainly bring him in for an exam and abdominal X-ray. Having an intestinal blockage can become life threatening without treatment. They can also give him pain medication so he’s more comfortable. This sounds serious so I wouldn’t ignore these symptoms.
