Why is my Dachshund tired, slow, nervous, and not interactive?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am so sorry that Ace is not feeling well. I would suspect that he has picked up a bit of an infection. The quivering could be a sign that he is running a fever. Being a dachshund, I would also be concerned that he has injured his back as we see a lot on Intervertebral Disc Disease in this breed. If you have the ability to have Ace evaluated by your veterinarian, a diagnosis can be made & he proper treatment started to get Ace feeling better as soon as possible. I hope all is well soon. These signs are very vague and common to many illnesses, injuries and infections. I recommend a vet check as soon as possible, in the meantime try to maintain hydration with fresh water, pedialyte, boiled chicken and fresh broth

Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Dexter evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Poor Bella! If she has a previous paw injury, it could be that it's hurting her again leading to the extreme lethargy. Whimpering would also be another cause of pain. She's also a dachshund, and they are a breed that tends to have a problems with their back, and that could be another problem. Keep her on cage rest tonight, and if she is still acting this way in the morning, then I would take her into the vet for a check. I hope this helps!

Bella needs to see the veterinarian today. Signs like this are never normal and can indicate many things. Especially being a Dachshund, there is a concern she has injured her back, has a compressed disc or has a protruding disc. Other causes are also possible. Injuries to the back can become serious quickly and can lead to paralysis. A physical exam and radiographs needed to begin figuring out the cause and the best treatment. Other diagnostics may also be indicated. She needs strict activity restriction so no running, jumping, walks, playing or stairs. Best of luck.

I am sorry tootsie is having a hard time. My concern would be arthritis, possible back disease, neurological issues or infection. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for a good exam to check her back and back for pain. I would recommend limiting her excercise and not allowing her to jump until she is checked out. Any signs of lethargy, decreased appetite, and acting abnormal, especially in a younger dog, warrant a visit to the veterinarian. A 2 year old Lab should have lots of energy and a good appetite if they are healthy. It is possible that he is systemically sick, either with gastrointestinal disease, liver or kidney disease, or other metabolic issue causing him to feel unwell. He may also be painful somewhere, causing him to not want to eat and walk slowly. I recommend contacting your veterinarian to have him seen at the next available appointment. Your vet will likely recommend bloodwork to look for any evidence of infection or organ abnormalities that can be treated. Do NOT give any pain medications that are intended for humans to Brak n Jan, as these can be fatally toxic to dogs. I hope this is helpful!
