Why is boiling chicken better for my dog than cooking in foil?

I would advise boiled chicken over roast chicken to use as treats. The roast chicken can have oils, and butters on it which are high in fat and can cause health problems. These health problems can lead to gastrointestinal upset such a pancreatitis.

It is fine to use some of the chicken broth for flavoring on dog food. Just make sure there was no aggressive seasoning or excessive salt used. The best broth for dogs would be non seasoned or low salt broth. Also you would want to skim out the fat if there is a lot of it or let it set up in the fridge first so you can remove the larger fat layer. Giving cooked chicken is also no problem as a treat. No I never give cooked chicken bones as they become hard after cooking and will splinter and can cause intestinal perforations or a blockage that can be life threatening and need emergency surgery to repair. Raw chicken necks with bones are fed by some people who feed a raw diet but I have seen problems with those also including vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Cooked chicken meat without the boxes, and chicken broth are fine to add into Eli's diet but please don't give the bones. Chicken is a safe and healthy choice. I see no difference is digestibility or health by choosing one over the other. If Annabelle is thriving on her current diet I see no reason to change it. Occasional treats of plain, unseasoned, boiled chicken is probably ok. However, it is best only to use in special circumstances, like during training sessions.
