Is a black shadow in my dog's eye normal, pannus, or serious?

I just today notice litle black shadow type in his eyes i am attaching the photos kindly check and see whether its normal or its pannus or something dangerous?

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is really difficult to tell from this photo and the one directional view of the shadow in question; however, I would assume this isn’t pannus because there are no other symptoms of pannus (i.e. conjunctivitis, or any vasculariztion (red blood vessels leading to this spot) that I can see and the photo isn’t very convincing. However, I would suggest taking 3 more photos at different angles and not changing anything about the photo or this can lead to distortion,m. The eye in this photo looks almost cartoony and hard to decifer what other possible things this could be.
We look forward to your repost and best of luck getting some good shots. If you are having difficulty with this, then a vet visit should be considered to have Bruno’s eye examined with proper instrumentation. Best wishes.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is a very interesting photo, and a great shot, however it cannot show us where exactly in the eye the mass is. It appears that it is within the globe of the eye itself, however it could also be in other locations. It is possible to get 'freckles' in the eye, however if there is a small mass, cancer is possible. I recommend you have Trace to the vet to have the eye assessed fully, and an ophthalmologist may be required. Some masses can be benign as well, and only a sample of the mass can confirm, but a simple eye exam to determine the exact location may be enough. It could also just be a normal feature of the eye that is presenting in an abnormal way (we call this 'artifact') on the image. Best of luck with Trace!

Why does my dog have a brown spot on the white of his eye and is it normal?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. In pugs, this is a normal thing to see. There is increased pigmentation (melanin) deposited on the eye. Pugs can develop pigmentary keratitis, in which a dark film develops over the eye itself. This does not cause any pain and unfortunately there is nothing you can do to make this go away or slow down the progression. If the eye becomes irritated, you can use steroid drops. Something that a vet would need to prescribe Dexter after examining him. I hope this helps! My dog has a gray spot in his eye that's growing. Is it a cataract?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is a little difficult to see due to the flash, but if the area is in the eye itself, it may be the beginning of a cataract. If you are referring to the area in the corner of the eye, closes to the nose, it is normal for the skin around the eye to have a little less hair. Cataracts are very common in dogs, especially as they get older but may be a sign of an underlying health condition such as diabetes. I recommend d having Cooper seen by a vet if you believe there is something abnormal about his eye. My dog has a film over its eye. What could it be and what to do?

Pugs, as you know, are prone to develop several eye problems such as corneal ulcers and chronic inflammation of the cornea (so the cornea can become blackish on the surface due to chronic rubbing against either skin folds or cilia). I can see that there is a chronic irritation from the pics but cannot rule out the presence of corneal ulcers. This can be done by a physical examination at your local veterinarian and would be essential to give appropriate treatment. I would definitively recommend a check up to establish the presence of corneal ulcers first and then decide what treatment is needed.

Dog pannus: Are eye drops & sunglasses good? When will eyes improve?

These are good treatments for pannus and it definitely looks like Sora is afflicted with this condition. Unfortunately, pannus is quite difficult to treat and the eyedrops and sunglasses will help to keep it from getting worse, but may not help it get much better. I have seen a few dogs that responded very well to treatment though and had significant improvement. I would not expect it to ever be completely normal again unless surgery was done to remove the black part. What's this red splotch growing on my dog's eyes? Is it serious?

Lucy needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. I cant tell from the photo is this is on the cornea or the interior of the eye. This could be an autoimmune condition like pannus or it could represent blood in the eye which can be caused by a few things including cancer. Best to play it safe. I hope this helps.

My dog has a cloudy spot in his eye. Does he need eye drops or a vet?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is extremely difficult to say what is going on with Jules's eye. Eyes need to be examined with an ophthalmoscope in order to get a good view. Just looking at a photo from one angle is not enough. I cannot tell if the issue is on the cornea or actually inside the eye. It is best to have him examined in person by your vet so they can use the ophthalmoscope to get a good look. If it is on the cornea then it may be just a scar from a previous injury (one you may not have even noticed). It could also be what is called a "Florida spot". If it is inside the eye it could be an iris cyst or even an iris melanoma. Again, I really cannot tell from a photo. It is not an emergency but try to get Jules to your vet in the next week or so.
