My dog is sick, not eating, and dirty after being missing. Can I bathe him?

I am so sorry this has happened to Babyboy. If he is still lethargic and not eating I would recommend taking him to the veterinarian. I urge caution when pouring water down dogs mouths as they can aspirate. I would also check his temperature to make sure he isn't too hot especially with the recent heat. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Dogs do not get sick from people, as viruses that cause people to be sick to not affect dogs. It sounds like Ruger may be ill based on the clinical signs you are describing, so I highly recommend contacting your veterinarian and seeing when he/she can have him seen. Your veterinarian may recommend bloodwork or imaging such as x-rays to look for a reason for him to be sick and vomiting. In the meantime, you can offer him a highly digestible, bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat. I hope this is helpful!

It sounds like poor Ghost has a lot going on. I would be concerned that he contracted an infectious disease of some sort while away. Because of his age I would be most concerned about intestinal parasites or parvovirus. I would recommend taking your puppy back to the vet to be examined since his symptoms are getting worse. It definitely is pretty typical for a pet to be extra tired for a few days after going missing, from the stress/excitement, and potentially increased activity of being out. If Bandit is eating and drinking well, that's certainly a good sign. You should be seeing him become progressively more of his normal self. If he continues to seem "off" or overly tired beyond the first couple days, or if you feel his appetite is decreased, then I'd definitely have a vet take a look. There are many hazards that our pets can encounter when they get outside, such as injury, toxic exposure, bites from other animals, etc so if Bandit isn't bouncing back it's worth having him seen by a vet. Hello, I am sorry to hear about Fabio. It should be alright to give him a bath. I would be extra careful to keep water away from his face and head to prevent him from aspirating any additional water. Poor Oscar! How scary for you to lose him for three days, but I'm glad he came back home. He could have eaten something on his adventure that has made him ill, or he could have been injured by another animal. I would keep him quiet tonight, and offer him small amounts of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. Have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning for a health check.

I am so sorry Mogli isn't feeling well. I highly recommend taking him to a veterinarian. I'm concerned about a foreign body or pancreatitis. At the vet they will perform X-rays and blood work to check for these and can provide treatment to make him feel better.
