Can I bathe my dog with leg pain before his vet appointment?

it would be better not to bathe your dog before you take him to the vet tomorrow, as it may be harder for him to diagnose the correct condition. Your vet may want to do a skin swab to culture for bacteria and/or fungi. If you wash the skin today, it may be hard for the vet to get enough bacteria or fungi off the skin to culture, and it may change the appearance enough to make it hard to diagnose. Better leave it be until tomorrow and then attack it with a vengeance according to your vet's recommendation.

I would imagine it would be ok to remove at the time of a bath or nail clipping but I would consult with your veterinarian before doing any changes as they know her condition in more detail and would be able to make more accurate recommendations. In the meantime you can go to Petco and use the Well and Good Buffered Aspirin to provide some pain relief. I do not recommend using this product long term but for short term use over the weekend, this should be absolutely fine. This could also be an injury further down the leg such as the stifle joint (ACL injury). Your vet will know what to do based on the physical examination. I hope this helps! I am sorry Pretty is not feeling well. My biggest concern would be that Pretty possibly injured her ACL or meniscus in her knee. I would recommend limiting her exercise and keeping her calm. However if she is not feeling well I would take her to a vet for a good physical exam and possible x-ray. Dogs can break a bone, tear ligaments, and have soft tissue injury which can cause limping. I hope Pretty feels better soon

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Fabio. It should be alright to give him a bath. I would be extra careful to keep water away from his face and head to prevent him from aspirating any additional water. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Scout! I haven't heard of limping as a side effect of flea shampoo. Usually the side effects are GI (vomiting, diarrhea, not eating), lethargy, skin irritation or neurologic (seizures, twitching). I think maybe he hurt himself before, during or after the bath and that is the the cause of the limping. The discomfort and lethargy could be from the bath or the painful leg. If he is still uncomfortable, lethargic, limping, not eating through out the day then I would bathe him in Dawn to remove the flea product and take him to the Vet. I recommend the edible flea and tick products (Nexgard, Bravecto or Simparica) to prevent and get rid of flea infestations. I wish Scout the best!
