Are my American bulldog's mouth pimples contagious to other dogs?

It sounds like he has a bacterial skin infection. You could try to clean with a chlorhexidine wound solution but he might need an oral antibiotic to treat. Have your vet take a look at him to determine the best treatment. Your vet can prescribe an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory, if needed. You could also use Mal-A-Ket wipes in his folds to keep the area clean and decrease infections from developing.

Breeds like French Bulldogs, Boxers and English Bulldogs are prone to skin abnormalities around their muzzles. They can have issues with acne, infected hair follicles, ingrown hairs and sometimes even allergies. Jack has some pretty big lesions so I recommend to have him checked out by his veterinarian as he may need systemic medication to address inflammation and possibly infection. Talk to the doctor about topical treatment that you can provide on a routine basis. Keeping his muzzle clean and dry will also help to prevent this moving forward. There are a couple of different things that could be causing these bumps. This is likely just a local infection of the skin. They tend to get this from having a wet, dirty muzzle. Many times this starts as a yeast infection and then becomes infected with bacteria. These bugs will make it stink. You can try to clear the infection at home by wiping the mouth with pet wipes twice a day for 14 days. Make sure to wipe it clean and dry it. It's also possible that there is a mite (demodex) causing this infection. A veterinarian would need to scrape the area and look under the microscope to find this. It would also require a specific type of medication. If you are not able to clear the infection at home, or it's not getting better in two weeks, then it's best to take him to the vet. He may need more treatment.

While it's difficult to say for certain if it is a staph infection I agree that it looks bacterial, but a fungal infection could look very similar. Skin infections in this area can occur secondary to irritation so make sure you use a glass or stainless steel bowl and clean it frequently. Allergies would be another possibility. This looks fairly severe in your picture - I'd recommend seeing your vet in person to determine if oral antibiotics are needed.

If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). However, this depends if they truly are due to an infection and the extent of it.
