This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). It's probably not, as it sounds most like a skin infection. Bulldogs are prone to allergies, so this may have started as an allergic reaction to something, and progressed to a bacterial skin infection. I would get this checked out as soon as possible - they typically need antibiotics and medications to calm the inflammation, in order to recover completely.

I am sorry to hear about Jasper! Chin pyoderma, or a bacterial infection of the skin on the chin is not uncommon in dogs, and sometimes can get severe. I would recommend bringing Jasper to a vet for examination because it looks like his case could require systemic antibiotics now rather than just topical treatment. They may also prescribe medication to decrease the inflammation. Hi and thanks for your request. This is likely to be due to a superficial skin infection likely to be caused by bacterial infection. It is not urgent. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any).

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Ruger. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. His skin appears to be infected. If so, he will likely medication such as antibiotics to help it heal. A topical cleansing solution may be prescribed as well. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him if he is scratching his chin. He needs to be taken to the vet as it looks infected, he will need a course of antibiotics, i don't think this will require stitching but a bandage with a local cream may also be needed to help it heal faster.

This sounds like he may have gotten into an ant nest or have a secondary skin infection from an allergic reaction. I recommend a veterinary exam and probably antibiotics to heal this skin infection. In the mean time you can bathe Browny in a medicated shampoo and apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on the sores he can't reach to lick. Your veterinarian can also give medication to reduce the itch and inflammation. This sounds painful also so please take him in soon for treatment.
