My dog has small pimples after birth. Are they contagious to puppies?

This may be due to a bacterial infection, mite infection, or due to an underlying allergy. I would recommend she see her veterinarian as soon as possible. Your veterinarian may do skin scraping to check for mites and may prescribe a course of antibiotics or other medications as necessary. Your veterinarian may also send you home with topical antimicrobial wipes and shampoo as well. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

It is likely a condition called [puppy pyoderma](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/staphylococcal-pyoderma-1). It is similar to acne in babies. Pyoderma is usually caused by *Staphylococcus* bacteria (or *Staph* for short). There is nothing to do about it in most cases. Typically, this condition will resolve on its own . If she licks it or if the condition worsens or spreads, have her physically examined by your veterinarian. A small [e-collar](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/all-four-paws-tan-comfy-cone-5000727--1) (cone) can be used to prevent licking until she sees the doctor. Stubborn cases may require a course of antibiotics.

There is also the possibility of him having a condition called puppy strangles, which will cause spread of rather large pimples to his face, ears and neck area, and these pimples can then rupture causing discomfort for your pet. It is hard to say for sure which is likely here without a good visual of the area. I recommend considering reposting your question with a photo for a more tailored answer. If the pimples are small however, they are likely just an allergic reaction and may go away on their own, especially if there are just a few. Hi there and thank you for posting this question. Pimple type growths can be a sign of a skin infection, mites, or even a tick bite reaction. If there is just one area and it improves daily then it is unlikely to be problematic. However, if you are feeling multiple areas, if you see fleas or ticks, or if it is not resolving then I would become more concerned. I suspect that these are little bumps are due to a bacterial infection (pyoderma). Puppies commonly get this on their bellies and they usually go away with good cleaning. I recommend cleaning the belly with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day until the bump(s) are gone. If it seems to get worse, then you'll want to take Mia into the vet for an exam. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what I can tell via your photo, this looks a lot like puppy pyoderma-a very common condition among young dogs. Essentially, these are "pimples" for puppies and usually caused by staph bacteria. I will usually try to rule out any underlying flea problem resulting in pustules, etc when I see these patients. If I see nothing else of concern I will usually prescribe antibiotics for 10-14 days at which point the breakout has usually cleared up. I would recommend seeing your vet to do these things as well-Lala will be much more comfortable without pustules. I hope this helps!
