My young cat accidentally mated. Could she be pregnant and too young?

Hi, my female persian cat will be 8 months old tomorrow. She was in heat from almost a month & accidentally mated several times with my 9 months old male cat on 4 th november. Many people are saying that she is too young to have kittens. Now i am very worried about what to do & how to find out she is pregnant or not or how to take care of her so that she can give birth without any complications. I can notice some changes in her already.please suggest me what to do now.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Elsa. If she is old enough to go into heat, she is able to become pregnant. A veterinarian can do an ultrasound around 28 days for pregnancy to look for fetal heartbeats. X-rays can be done to count kittens by 45-50 days of pregnancy. I recommend continuing to feed her kitten food for adequate nutrition. I hope this information helps!

The gestation period is 63 days, so it is still relatively early. I would expect to see signs of pregnancy no earlier than 4 weeks, and certainly I wouldn't attempt a pregnancy scan until at least 4 weeks as it is too difficult to distinguish kittens at earlier stages. So if she has not come into heat again she could certainly be pregnant, I would be patient for another week or two and if there is still no signs or she hasn't come back to heat take her into a vet for an ultrasound scan then you will know for sure. It is possible but relatively rare that she is in a false pregnancy.

Purry should be 42 days pregnant now. Sometimes it is possible that a cat does come into heat during pregnancy. If you want to know whether she is still pregnant, take her to your vet for an x ray or an utrasound. Kittens should be visible now and the vet can also count them, so you know how many to expect. It will also show her empty if she is not pregnant.

Usually around five or six months of age is the earliest I am accustomed to seeing pregnant cats, but four months is technically possible. In terms of care and diet, I usually recommend that pregnant cats are fed a diet of kitten food rather than adult food until they have weaned their kittens entirely. I do want to caution you however that it is not uncommon for very young cats that become mothers sometimes do not treat their young appropriately. They often abandon their young or even injure them intentionally in some cases. In addition to any other special care they might need, pregnant cats must not receive most medications, including flea / tick medications. They can be toxic to the fetuses. If you want to be sure of the pregnancy status, a veterinarian will need to perform an ultrasound after a certain period of time, or an x-ray after even more time. Hope this makes sense.

He is quite young to be sexually mature but it is possible. If he is mounting her then he could potentially get her pregnant. If he doesn’t want to mount her then it is likely that he his isn’t old enough. I hope this answers your question.

Bella may have difficulty feeding the litter as she is still growing herself. Confirm that she is indeed pregnant first. Your veterinarian may be able to do this via palpation or abdominal x-ray. If it is early enough, consider having her spayed for her health and safety and to prevent unwanted or accidental litters in the future. If you decide to leave her intact, she will need to be monitored closely throughout the pregnancy, delivery and raising of the litter until weaning.

She's also pretty small and you may consider getting radiographs done at day 45-60 to know how many kittens to expect so you will be aware of any potential problems delivering the kittens. Yes, Pixie can get pregnant as soon as she starts cycling. Yes, it will stunt her growth a little as she is not fully mature yet. She will not mate once she is pregnant but may come back into heat once the litter starts weaning. Cats can be prolific breeders so I would highly recommend to have her spayed ASAP! Can my 4-month-old kitten get pregnant outside before her first heat?

It's possible for her to have her first heat cycle anytime after four months of age, but it normally occurs around six months. She would have to be in heat in order to accept the male and get pregnant, but you should be aware that this can happen anytime now. It's important to have her spayed prior to her coming into heat, because the procedure is more risky when they are in heat. They also tend to fight with other cats when they are in heat, which can increase their chances of getting serious infections and contracting FIV and/or FeLV. These diseases are vaccine-preventable, so it's important to also ask your vet about this vaccine if she will continue to have contact with feral cats. I hope that helps and all is well with Bella.
