My 5-month-old kitten is sick. Should I still give her vaccines?

This will depend on why your kitten is on antibiotics. Usually a pet on antibiotics is ill and since only healthy animals should be vaccinated to ensure that the entire immune system is trained, it is advisable to wait with vaccinations until your kitten is healthy again and off the antibiotics.

As long as Maki is improving and no longer sick, she can receive vaccinations. However, she needs to be around 6-8 weeks old to receive her first vaccinations. If you are unsure of her age and think she is around 2 months then I would wait 2-3 weeks before commencing vaccines. I'm glad to hear that Kitty is feeling better again! If her vet examines her and says that she appears healthy, there is no reason to delay her vaccine. Vaccinations are effective when given 3-4 weeks apart so that there is appropriate stimulation for both short term (IgM) and long term (IgG) antibody formation.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lily! Lily is likely having a reaction to the vaccines. If she has a fever she needs to see a veterinarian. When animals have fevers they do not want to eat. Your Vet, after their exam, will likely give her subcutaneous fluids and steroids. Once the fever and the reaction has subsided Lily will likely eat. There is nothing to do at home besides wait out the fever and that may take to long. Cats can not go more than 3 days with out eating or they get sicker. If she has an infectious disease the vaccine will not prevent it from getting worse. Bloody stool could be from a virus, a bacterial infection, a GI foreign body, or parasites. Even if you have dewormed her, not all dewormers get every parasite. If the bloody stool continues I would recommend borrowing money to have her seen by a vet. Good luck and kisses to Miss Kitty!

Yes this should be fine as long as she is feeling better. Also, you may consider putting her on a daily immune boosting vitamin like viralys or vetriscience lysine treats. It doesn’t treat the virus but it may help to boost her immune system. I hope this helps!

Hi, I'm sorry to hear Panda is having problems. Vomiting and diarrhea can be something simple like sensitivity to food or something more serious like a disease called panleukopenia. Vomiting and diarrhea is never normal in a kitten and should be investigated by a vet. Once the vet gets him healthy, then he can get his vaccines. he will need his FVRCP vaccine (which usually starts at 3 months), then a booster vaccine three weeks from that date. He should also be tested at the vet for feline leukemia and dewormed. Good luck, I hope this helps!
