My cat had a tick. Is my unvaccinated kitten safe from tick disease?

You can treat the mom with revolution but there are no products labeled for kittens until they are 4 weeks old. I would not place the revolution on 3 day old kittens. all you can safely do for them is bath them in dish soap or baby shampoo and pick them off the babies. Keep the environment clean and treated and by treating the mom, then you can control the problem until they are old enough to have their own medicine

Kittens are old enough to be vaccinated for the first time at 6-8 weeks of age. Flea treatment depends on the product, as certain products can only be used when the kitten reaches a specific age. I don't recommend flea collars, they generally are pretty poor products. You can use Revolution, which is a spot on flea treatment, on a kitten at least 6 weeks of age.

Ticks can be prevented with only 1 preventative that I am aware of on he market right now, and hat product is called Bravecto for cats. Here is a website link with more information. https://us.bravecto.com/for-cats.aspx But to rid the ticks that are on him currently, and also to treat for his other conditions (likely an upper respiratory infection and possible tick borne disease) I highly recommend taking him in to your vet for a proper exam and possible tests to make sure he didn’t get some infection from the ticks. This is great. I would freshen up your Angora cat's vaccination and when you adopt your new kitten, make sure it is examined, wormed and vaccinated by your veterinarian. All should be well then. Oh, and there will be a lot of hissing and spitting....do not despair. It will take time but eventually they will at least tolerate each other or even like each other. Make sure you give your older kitty just as much loving as up to now so she does not feel neglected.

I would worry a little more about the new kitten passing on diseases to the older cat - viral upper respiratory infections in particular are common. I'd recommend vaccinating both cats with the FVRCP combo and rabies vaccines. If the cats are going to continue to be outdoors then the FeLV vaccine would also be recommended, and I actually usually recommend vaccinating all kittens for FeLV since you never know if their lifestyle might change.
