My cat's vaccinations lapsed. Is she safe with an unvaccinated kitten?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hello, I have a Turkish Angora (Ankara) female indoor cat who's 5 years old. She has been vaccinated yearly against FVRCP (combination) and FeLV since she was a kitten, but not since May 2017 - she is an indoor cat and never goes outside. My question is... I would like to adopt another kitten (2.5-month old). She's a stray cat but has been tested for FELV, FIV and FCoV Ab, the results of which are all negative. If we adopt her, would my cat be under risk as this new kitten hasn't been vaccinated

This is great. I would freshen up your Angora cat's vaccination and when you adopt your new kitten, make sure it is examined, wormed and vaccinated by your veterinarian. All should be well then.
Oh, and there will be a lot of hissing and spitting....do not despair. It will take time but eventually they will at least tolerate each other or even like each other. Make sure you give your older kitty just as much loving as up to now so she does not feel neglected.
