My unneutered male cat has penis discharge. What does it mean?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The discharge you are seeing is a normal substance that unneutered males produce to lubricate the penis. Sometimes the discharge comes out of the prepuce. The production of this substance is decreased when pets are neutered. You can continue to wipe it off it noted but no treatment is needed. The discharge does appear more brown than red. It also looks like there is a little hair at the top of the paper towel. If the discharge is coming from the skin around the prepuce, it is possible that Hugo has a bacterial or more commonly yeast overgrowth on his skin that is causing the discharge. Your vet can look at a sample under the microscope to determine if that is the case. It is common that cats can develop skin infections in areas that hold moisture. You vet will be able to prescribe a medicated wipe to keep the area clean that may contain an antibiotic or an anti-fungal medication depending on what they find under the microscope. Good luck! Hi, since Grimmy was neutered, it is likely that this mucous is coming from her anus. The drops in the in the second picture look like diarrhoea to me. I think it is better to have Grimmy checked over. In the meantime, you can feed her a bland diet of plain chicken or fish and rice. Hope this helps !

Discharge from the vulva of an unspayed female is always very concerning. Your cat may have a urinary tract infection or may have a more serious condition called a pyometra. This is where the uterus becomes infected. Pyometra can be life threatening. If this is what is going on with Panda she will need surgery to have her uterus removed. She will also need to be on antibiotics. I would recommend taking Panda in to see your vet as soon as possible so she can be evaluated and treatment can be initiated. I hope this helps. Best of luck. A certain amount of discharge, especially in intact male dogs, may be normal. This discharge is known as smegma. If there is an increased amount or if you notice a foul odor, excessive licking and difficulty urinating, then it may be that he has an infection either in the [urinary tract](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/utis-in-dogs) or under the prepuce. Take him to your regular vet when they open for an examination and diagnosis. They will be able to provide appropriate pain relief and treatment.

If you are certain that Clowny is not pregnant then it could be discharge related to vaginitis, or inflammation/infection of the vagina. it might also be a sign of a uterine or urinary tract infection. I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian for them to examine Clowny if this discharge continues.

That is likely "smegma", a normal discharge in intact males. You can have your veterinarian exam him for confirmation. Monitor for excessive discharge or licking or for bloody discharge or difficulty urinating.
