My cat has bloody mucus discharge. Is it anal or vaginal? What to do?

This could be mucus in his stool or possibly material from his anal glands. If he is behaving normally, you can offer a bland diet for a few days and minimize stress as much as possible. If the discharge worsens or if Napoleon becomes lethargic, develops diarrhea, stops eating or starts vomiting, then you should have him examined by your veterinarian. A pheromone product, such as Feliway spray or plug in diffusers, may help to decrease any anxiety or stress.

The glands are situated inside the rectum and they have fluid that is released when they have a bowel movement or when they are scared. It is difficult to say without being able to examine your kitty. This may be blood from an anal gland infection, but could also be from an injury or bloody diarrhea. You should take her to a veterinary doctor as she will need antibiotics to prevent infection.

If goldy is having blood discharge from her vulva it is possible she is having a problem with her uterus, uti, crystals or irritation to the bladder. Due to her young age and the above possibilities I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian. Poor Tazia! I'm not sure from your question where this discharge is coming from (her bladder, vulva, or anus) but regardless, bloody discharge from anyplace is never normal. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam right away - he/she can check her carefully to determine the source of the discharge and may recommend some further testing such as blood work, a urinalysis, or a fecal exam to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

That could typically be due either to anal gland infection/inflammation or diarrhoea with liquid feces. A check up is necessary if the signs are not resolving, despite a change in the dietary regime (bland diet with chicken and rice for the next 3-4 days). Antibiotics and anal gland expression may be needed.

Get a fecal sample and send it away for analysis (worms, protozoa, bacteria, etc.) 2. Abdominal ultrasound 3. Trial with hypoallergenic diet 4. Checking B12 levels 4. GI endoscope and samples Often chronic GI issues in cats can be hard to diagnose the exact cause, as it is often a combination of factors, however start at the top of the list and go down, and see if you can get an answer.
