How to trim a 1-year-old cat's nails? Is it really necessary?

Absolutely! It is easy to clip a cat's nails at home as long as she is relatively cooperative. You can squeeze the tip of each toenail to extrude the claw and identify the pink quick. Clip the claw avoiding the quick. If you're unsure or your cat is frisky most grooming facilities and some veterinarians will trim nails and can probably demonstrate the proper technique.

This should be done every 2-4 weeks depending on how fast the nails grow. I advise to go online and watch a few videos on trimming cat’s nails. It’s easier to see the process than to read about it. In general, you want to trim off the hook portion of the nail and avoid the quick (that’s the pink tissue within the nail) by at least 5mm. Hello, and thank you for your question. I would try keeping the nails very trim by cutting them every two weeks with cat nail clippers. It may be worth visiting a pet groomer or the vet to be shown how short the nails can be cut. If she is still catching her claws on the furniture even with regular trimming, then you may need to consider declawing. However, declawing is a painful procedure with chance of complications, so I would not encourage doing this unless absolutely necessary. I hope this helps! Cats generally do not require bathes because they are so great about cleaning and grooming themselvs. Their nails naturally shed every 6-8 weeks and having them clipped actually leads to scratching because they want to make them sharp. As far as hair trimmed, that is personal preference for you. Try to brush her daily to get her used to it so there will be no tangles or mats. IF a mat does develop, then she will it cut out by the groomer. Her teeth should be brushed at least 3 times a week if able and you can do this at home with finger tooth brush and feline approved tooth past to help.

Yes you should very carefully cut this nail before it causes skin problems. If you are afraid to do this, take her to your vet to have it cut properly. They may show you how, so you can do it yourself the next time when it is necessary.

I would not yet cut her nails as the nails are necessary for traction at this age. I would not cut the nails until your kitten is at least 4 months old. Minu needs to be able to run, climb and play without slipping.
