How cold is too cold for a kitten living outside? Will she get sick?

The cold will not cause your kitten to become ill unless it is causing significant stress. In general, indoor dwellings are warm enough that this does not happen. You could lay out rugs on the floor so that she has an option to walk on a warmer surface. Placing a few beds around the house or even elevating the beds off the floor will also provide more protection. Cold water will generally not harm pets but it may be unpleasant to drink. Warming the water 2-3 times a day and then showing her the warmed water will give her the opportunity to drink it if she wants. Persians are very furry cats and she may even have hair between her toes which do provide some protection from the cold. Great question! During the first three weeks of life, kittens are unable to regulate their body temperature, so temperatures less than 27C can lead to hypothermia if their mother does not keep them warm. Usually by seven weeks of age, they can control their body temperature as well as an adult. Given your kittens are just over three weeks, this still may be a little bit cold for them. I would keep the temperature in their room a bit higher until they are closer to seven weeks of age. I hope this helps!

You need to keep her warm inside your home 27/7, a carton box with fleece or other warm cloths would be a good option, you can also use warm bottles under the cloths. it's important to feed her kitten milk replacer only, normal milk is not good enough for kittens, she can't survive on it. you can buy kitten milk replacer in any pet shop.

If it is cold for you, it is probably cold for her. Just make sure she has a way to get out of the cold by going into the garage or a warm spot outside. You could set up an insulated cat bed by cutting a hole in an ice chest (use google for other diy winter cat beds). You can also play with her throughout the day. Use various toys like a laser pointer, toys on a stick, feather toys, bell toys, etc. Playing in the snow is also a type of stimulation she may enjoy.

If her temperature is low, it is important to try and bring it back up by placing her near a heat source (but not too close) and a heating blanket on top of towels so that it reduces the risk of burns to the skin from direct contact with the heating blanket. If she is not eating, you should administer 1-2 tsp of a sugar source such as honey or karo syrup and see if this helps. She may have low blood sugar. This also may be infectious and unfortunately the only recommendation for an infection would be to see a veterinarian for the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations. It is concerning that Belle has moved only one kitten into a different location, and I would recommend trying to keep her and all of the kittens together in an area where they can be more easily supervised. If the kitten in the closet seems sick (if it is crying frequently, less active than it's littermates, having difficulty breathing, or if it seems cold) I would recommend seeing a veterinarian right away. While it can be difficult to determine what is wrong with very young kittens, sometimes aggressive supportive care can be successful so I wouldn't necessarily say that the kitten won't survive simply because Belle seems to be paying less attention to it.

I would make sure that Archie is kept indoors at night, especially since it's been quite cold here in New Zealand at night. You can set up a little basket for him to sleep in by a heat source, which will help keep him warm. I hope this helps :-)
