How to tell if my new male cat is neutered? Female in heat.

Male cats will have a scrotum with two testicles in the scrotum if they are not neutered. If a male cat is neutered they will still have a scrotum but it might be very small and no testicles will be present. If you look under the tail right under the rectum is where the testicles would be located. hope that helps

From the attached picture it appears to be a neutered male - likely one that was neutered at a young age as I do not see the presence of a well developed scrotum. If you want, you can post another picture - including some of the tail all of the anus and everything below the anus. If you put him with female cats and they did not mate then that means the females were not in heat. The female needs to be in heat in order to allow the male to breed. If you do not want to breed Oreo then it is best to neuter him. I hope this answers your question. I wish you the best!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Grey. Only female cats will come into heat so this would not be the case if you are sure he is a male. He could be reacting to unspayed female cats in the neighborhood though who are in heat. This can result in the symptoms you have described. Neutering him will help if this is the case. It will take some time for the testosterone to leave his system after the surgery so the behavior will persist for a period of time though. I hope this information helps!

You need to go back to the vet who did the neuter and ask for the surgery report which should say whether only one testicle was removed or both. You can also have your cat tested (blood test) for hormonal activity which will then show whether he has a hormone-producing testicle left. If that is the case, I would go back to the original vet and ask him to remove the retained testicle. If he only removed one testicle he should have informed you and also told you that your tom was not neutered. Retained testicles can become cancerous as well.

Male cats that are neutered after they reach sexual maturity are more likely to continue to exhibit behaviors that were caused by testosterone even after they are neutered. These behaviors can include urine marking and humping types of behaviors. That is one of the reasons that we recommend neutering before sexual maturity. If the shelter neutered him before you adopted him, then I would not doubt that he is neutered, but you certainly can have your veterinarian examine him just to be on the safe side. Male cats don't technically go into heat (that is more a female thing). They do however, become sexually mature around 6 months of age which means they are now interested in mating and can actually impregnate a female. Cats can be neutered as early as 8 weeks of age but most vets wait until at least 4 months of age. Yuki is definitely old enough to be neutered and based on his behavior you described I would do it soon. There is no male "heat" cycle so he can be neutered anytime now. Whether or not the vaccines should be done before or after is up to your vet. Some vets require the vaccines to be up to date before they will do surgery so ask your vet about that. Hope this helps.
