My male cat is acting out. When can I neuter him and get vaccines?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Grey. Only female cats will come into heat so this would not be the case if you are sure he is a male. He could be reacting to unspayed female cats in the neighborhood though who are in heat. This can result in the symptoms you have described. Neutering him will help if this is the case. It will take some time for the testosterone to leave his system after the surgery so the behavior will persist for a period of time though. I hope this information helps!

Male cats will reach sexual maturity anytime after six months of age. They will want to roam more, can and do start fighting with each other and other cats for females and territory, and will urine mark their territory. This will include spraying it the house, which smells terrible and is almost impossible to get out. They can also become more aggressive. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about these behaviors, the only way to prevent them from happening is to have them neutered. If you don't want to do that, then you will have to understand that they can and will mark with urine in your home, they can be gone for days roaming around, and they will be more prone to fights and therefore injuries. It truly is better to have them neutered for their health and behavior, as well as for your home. I hope this helps!

If you put him with female cats and they did not mate then that means the females were not in heat. The female needs to be in heat in order to allow the male to breed. If you do not want to breed Oreo then it is best to neuter him. I hope this answers your question. I wish you the best!

Hello, they should be at least 2-4 months old, have both testicles descended into their scrotum, and weigh at least 2 lbs. They should also have had their vaccines up to date and should have been dewormed, although both of those can be done the day of surgery. Hope this helps.

Great question, and good on you for wanting to get Lucchese neutered and vaccinated! Feline core vaccines include FVRCP (feline distemper combo) and a Rabies vaccine. If he is an outdoor cat, the FeLV vaccine (feline leukemia) should be considered. You can get him vaccinated at the same time as getting neutered, so I would make an appointment with a local vet to get these procedures done. I hope this helps!

Most neutered male cats will lick themselves while their penis is out. I would consider neutering him sooner, as long as he is 5 lbs I think it is fine to do before 6 months of age. Good luck!

Poor guy. You need to get him to a vet right away to have these areas flushed and then get him on a short course of antibiotics to prevent infection. Animal bites are notorious for getting infected because loads of bacteria live on pets teeth, which then migrates underneath the skin during the bite. Neutering your pet during this healing process is not an ideal time to do this; although, if your vet doesn't mind doing a quick snip at the same time to save from having to do two procedures, then go for it. I have seen several vets who will do this to help the owner out with expenses, plus a cat neuter takes literally 5-10 minutes to do. A neutered pet is less likely to get into so many fights outside, so there is an advantage to doing this right away.
