My male cat acts like he's in heat. Will neutering help his behavior?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 0 lbs

Gray is a stray my girlfriend and I found a few days ago, he is male, my best guess is he is around 3-4 years old, I believe he is showing signs of being in heat, he is shaking a bit and meowing louder, I’m wondering is now a bad time to neuter him, and if not, would that help with his current state?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Grey. Only female cats will come into heat so this would not be the case if you are sure he is a male. He could be reacting to unspayed female cats in the neighborhood though who are in heat. This can result in the symptoms you have described. Neutering him will help if this is the case. It will take some time for the testosterone to leave his system after the surgery so the behavior will persist for a period of time though. I hope this information helps!
