My cat just had kittens. How to tell if she has more inside her?

Hello. It has been a few hours since you posted, so perhaps Quinn has already had the rest of her kittens. If not, & she remains comfortable, there are no obvious signs of contractions & she is happily nursing her kittens, there is not much you can or need to do. It is possible that what you felt was actually the uterus contracting down, a common mistake. If she goes 24 hours without delivering any more kittens & you still think you are feeling something, please have her examined by your veterinarian. She may require an injection to stimulate contractions, or she may need a C-section, but I think she may actually be done. See your vet if you have any concerns. Hello. You can gently squeeze her abdomen working your way back from just behind the ribs toward her hind legs. If you do not feel any significant lumps, then she is done. Since she had no difficulties with the first ones, it is unlikely anyone was left behind. But if you do get concerned, the best is to have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She might. If she is laying comfortably, grooming herself and her kittens and NOT having contractions then she may have more later. Cats can delay labor for up to 24 hours. If you are still worried at the 24 hour mark make an appointment with your Vet for a belly X-ray to be sure she is finished. Good luck!

Hello, you may see that Halie is still having active abdominal contractions. However, sometimes it is hard to tell just by looking at them and so an x-ray would be the most helpful in determining if there are still kittens inside Halie's belly. If you're not sure she is done being in labor then I would recommend going to your veterinarian so that they can assess her. Hope this helps

Hi, bearing in mind that each case is a different one, cats can give birth after 24 hours from the first initial kitten or from the first few. If you are in doubt though as nothing seems to be happening, have her checked over. Hope this helps !

Hello. This is always a bit of a mystery as to why this happens, but I personally have seen a queen have one kitten & deliver 4 more a full week later. Most often, a single birth is a premature kitten, but 2 kittens really confounds even this issue. If you can afford to have Lily seen by your veterinarian, an x-ray can show how many kittens are still present & an ultrasound can evaluate heartbeats. If the fetal heartbeats are around 180 - 200 beats per minute, then all is well. If the heartbeats are 170 or less, these kittens are stressed & need to come out. As long as Lily continues to act completely normal & there are no obvious vaginal discharges, then you can probably wait another day or so, but after that, I begin to get nervous. It could be that Shiver has more kittens that still need to be born, but without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. It's concerning that three have been stillborn, and I would be worried there's something wrong and she needs help giving birth. My advice is to take her into a vet immediately to be checked out.
