My cat had kittens. How to know if she's done delivering them all?

Hello. It has been a few hours since you posted, so perhaps Quinn has already had the rest of her kittens. If not, & she remains comfortable, there are no obvious signs of contractions & she is happily nursing her kittens, there is not much you can or need to do. It is possible that what you felt was actually the uterus contracting down, a common mistake. If she goes 24 hours without delivering any more kittens & you still think you are feeling something, please have her examined by your veterinarian. She may require an injection to stimulate contractions, or she may need a C-section, but I think she may actually be done. See your vet if you have any concerns. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is no way to tell by palpating Quinn's belly if she has any remaining kittens. The only way to know 100% is to take her to your Vet for an X-ray. Cats can delay labor for up to 24 hours, especially if stressed. Limit the number of people around her, have her in a quiet private room, do not let other animals in and check on her every 2-3 hours for the next 24 hours. If she has more kittens then she will give birth to them soon. I hope this helps!

Hello, you may see that Halie is still having active abdominal contractions. However, sometimes it is hard to tell just by looking at them and so an x-ray would be the most helpful in determining if there are still kittens inside Halie's belly. If you're not sure she is done being in labor then I would recommend going to your veterinarian so that they can assess her. Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She might. If she is laying comfortably, grooming herself and her kittens and NOT having contractions then she may have more later. Cats can delay labor for up to 24 hours. If you are still worried at the 24 hour mark make an appointment with your Vet for a belly X-ray to be sure she is finished. Good luck!

Hi, bearing in mind that each case is a different one, cats can give birth after 24 hours from the first initial kitten or from the first few. If you are in doubt though as nothing seems to be happening, have her checked over. Hope this helps !

If Lucy seems comfortable, is caring well for the kittens, & you do not see her pushing or having active contractions, then you can let her rest. You may be feeling a contracted uterine horn, or it may be another kitten, but if she is content then you can probably wait until the morning to have her checked out. Since it is already late, you would have to take her in to the emergency clinic anyway, but I would not recommend it, yet. If she becomes restless, vocal, & you see her pushjng for more than 30 minutes without producing a kitten, then take her in. Hopefully, this will not be necessary. Take care.

Congratulations on the kittens. If Fluffu did not have an xray to determine the amount of kittens prior to labor (which I assume based on your question that she did not) then it is hard to say for certain about what you are feeling. The "hard lump" could be her uterus not yet contracted down to a small size, her mammary glands (those are outside the abdomen but you may still be feeling them as the "hard lump"), another kitten, or simply a full stomach. Hopefully there is not another kitten in there at this point since she is finished with labor. You can monitor and watch her closely and continue to feel the "hard lump", but if you are pretty suspicious about the possibility of another kitten the safest thing to do is to have a veterinarian examine her. The doctor may be able to tell just on physical exam what the hard lump is or can take an xray for definitive diagnosis of knowing if there is another kitten in there.
