What can I give a stray cat with painful mouth sores from a pharmacy?

Unfortunately there is no topical numbing oral solution for cats that I know of but something such as Sucralfate may help alleviate the ulcerations inside of the mouth. I would discuss this with a veterinarian as you will need a prescription to get Sucralfate. If she has stomatitis, she may need to have all of her teeth removed to help resolve this problem. Please contact your local humane society to try and identify a shelter or foster hone to get him the help he requires. It is likely he has loose, broken or infected teeth that require extraction in order to control the pain

There is really no home dental treatment, only home preventive care. If there is an abscessed tooth that infection can cause the jaw to get infected too if left untreated. There may be a tooth root exposed from a broken tooth. Really, he needs to see a vet and should be neutered too. Now, I realize that may not be possible where you are so if you absolutely cannot get him to a vet all you can do is try an oral antibiotic to hopefully correct any infection. Clindamycin is the best antibiotic to use for dental issues. I am only able to find it in tablet form. He may or may not eat it. If not, you will have to mix it with some canned cat food to see if he will eat it that way. I would give it for 14 days total. Antibiotics in the US aren't available over the counter, and cats are picky with their food so they are unlikely to eat food that is treated with medications. You can get a live animal trap and leave food in there to try to capture the kitty so it can get proper treatment.

The ulcers are likely due to feline stomatitis, or a calicivirus infection. Without evaluating him, I can't make this diagnosis and would recommend consulting with your vet for more information about his specific condition. Stomatitis is a frustrating condition and the best remedy we have is often a full mouth teeth extraction. Antibiotics and steroids can be effective in some cases, but lysine has not shown to be effective. Either way, it sounds like poor Mr. Kitty is in need of pain control and further treatment, so it's best to take him for a recheck exam by your vet, so they can prescribe the necessary medication. Cats can develop something called gingivostomatitis as well as feline oral resoptive lesions. These are both very painful and require antibiotics and sometimes steroids as well as dental procedures to correct. Also if there's any possibility she chewed something like electric cord or plant that can calls the signs as well. I recommend Dusk be checked out by a veterinarian as soon as possible. This is to prevent her from becoming dehydrated and malnourished from not eating. Do not give her any human medications as they are very toxic to cats and I'll make the situation worse.

The eye probably needs topical medications so you will have to catch him to even try. I would recommend offering him canned cat food so he can eat without much discomfort. If he eats the canned food, maybe you can use it to lure him into the trap. Good luck!
