How to stop my cat from nursing her sister and prevent harm?

Hi there. I would recommend keeping the 12 week old kitten separate from the nursing mama. We don't want the kittens to fail to thrive due to too little nutrition. I would completely separate Ciki from the other kittens. Their mother needs to care for them, and it's not right that Ciki is preventing the other mother from having access to them. I would put that mother and her kittens into a room away from Ciki so that mother can care for her kittens properly. Good luck!

Hello there, Kittens are typically weaned at 8 weeks of age. Kittens that are weaned later in life may chronically suckle on objects through their lifetime. Sometimes this can become an obsessive behavior, lead to ingestions of non-food objects, or can cause injury to another pet. In the wild, most kittens would be quite independent from their mother already. Chronic suckling can only happen in captivity when they are kept together longer than they normally would be- being kept together means there is no natural end to the suckling. I'd recommend keeping them strictly separated for a few weeks to months to try to stop this behavior. This is normal behavior for kittens and they typically outgrow this. There is not much you can do in the way of training other than separating them. If you can find kitten clothes small enough to fit him, this could help too. Make sure to exercise them well. I hope this helps.

I would not worry about him hurting her. If this actually would hurt her, she would swat him and not let him suckle. Unfortunately it is almost impossible to get him to stop the suckling as it is a comfort behavior. It makes him feel happy and safe. The only way to get him to stop possibly, is to put a baby body on your female so he cannot access the nipples and really, I would not do this to her. Trust her to tell him it is not ok when it hurts her.

You need to keep both of the separate for now, they each need to focus on their kittens fully. Put each in their own room with their own food, water, and litter box as well as any kittens who are nursing.

Cats can behave like this after any separation (even just as short as a trip to the vet). Generally this behavior will calm down. For now, separate food, water and litter box so that there is not competition. Also try a pheromone diffuser in the house to see if this helps to calm them down.
