Why is my senior cat peeing outside the litter box with CKD?

He may have developed another condition in addition to his kidney disease. Thyroid disorders and diabetes can both affect urine production or his kidney disease may have worsened. In the meantime, keep him in a small room with his food and water and his litter box. Place the food and water as far away from the box as possible. Keep him in the room only when he is unsupervised to encourage him to use the box. Otherwise keep him out and give him plenty of attention. It may be that Kasey does not like the litter in her litter box as much for urination so you may change that to a different litter material/type. Another thing you can do is use a product called Feliway which can help resolve some of these issues if they are behavioral in nature. You may find that online. I recommend that she has a urine culture performed to ensure there is an infection present and the correct antibiotic is prescribed. If there is not an infection or if it has resolved, then she should have x-rays to look for bladder stones. If this is not the case, idiopathic cystitis is very common in cats. I recommend that you check and make sure that she is drinking enough water. Sometimes using several water bowls throughout the house is helpful.
