Is it safe to delay my kitten's vaccine booster until January?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 19 days old | 7.2 lbs

Need to continue vaccines from last month do I need to do immediately in December or can I wait for January

Vaccines for kittens should be given 4 weeks apart. It is best to stay as close to that schedule as possible and can be difficult this time of year due to the holidays. If waiting until January is only a week behind, it will be fine. If waiting that long pushes them several weeks behind, then it is best to do them. At their ages this should be the final round

Beyond 6 weeks is too long so if it's under 6 weeks you will be ok. I hope this helps and you are able to make it under the wire. Good luck

Yes, the vaccine would still be effective. Vaccines protect animals against future exposure, and if your kitten is kept safely at home its exposure to the diseases we vaccinate against should be pretty minimal.

I do recommend reaching out to your vet clinic for guidance, however. Most clinics are having to adjust their appointments during coronavirus, but puppy and kitten vaccine series are often the only vaccine appointments still offered.

Cat vaccine boosters: when to give and how to deworm my kitten?

At this age I would recommend boostering based on the vaccine insert recommendations: typically 3-4 weeks. It’s best to deworm based on the results of a fecal analysis which your vet could perform. Otherwise broad spectrum deworming is typically recommended at 2,4,6 and 8 weeks. If your kitten has never been dewormed you could probably give a dose now and repeat in two weeks. In my area pyrantel would be the dewormer of choice.

I would probably do the booster in 3 weeks. That is pretty standard booster timing. I would ask your vet whether or not rabies and feline leukemia are recommended vaccines for your area. Those are the only other vaccines that I would consider if needed in your area.

He should be ok for another few months, but I'd keep him indoors at all times to be safe if he is allowed outside. I remember recently I fell almost a year behind in one of my cat's vaccines because I was so busy and forgot, but I was able to vaccinate him with no issue. But he is indoor only, so it wasn't a big deal as he wasn't exposed to any other animals. Get his vaccines when you can. I hope this helps!

As long as Maki is improving and no longer sick, she can receive vaccinations. However, she needs to be around 6-8 weeks old to receive her first vaccinations. First of all, Gene is beyond adorable! To answer your question, no, you should not be worried about him receiving two FVRCP vaccines in a one month span. This vaccine is typically given every 3-4 weeks until at least 16 weeks of age to maximize the immune response, but sometimes circumstances result in an additional vaccine being administered. Not to worry - everything should be fine!
