Why is my new rescue cat gassy? Is it her food, diet, or health?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 7 lbs

I rescued our cat from humane society she was very healthy and was spayed 3 days before we took her home. Since we brought her home she has gas problem. I have changed her food three times.she is now eating Blue sensitive stomach with probiotics for digestive health. Just wondered if she is just a gassie cat or something else. Thanks Marion

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and congratulations on your new addition! Slinky is adorable! Gas is common with diet changes, which take up to several weeks to adjust to. I recommend keeping Slinky's diet stable, limiting treats and human food for at least two weeks to allow her to fully adjust. I also recommend ensuring that Slinky is negative for intestinal parasites by having her stool evaluated for them by a veterinarian. I hope all is well!
