Why does my new 3-month-old kitten have bad gas and stinky poop?

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I would have Axl checked out by a vet first. Medical problems such as a GI illness and intestinal worms can cause the gas and funny stool. Should he have one of these problems, the vet can treat him for it. If a medical problem is ruled out, brands of kitten food I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, and Iams. What a cutie!!! A bloated tummy is most often related to worms or an upset tummy. I recommend to call your vet and ask if Raichu needs to be dewormed again. I'm not sure if you changed his diet but I recommend the brand Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible and this results in great stool quality, minimal quantity and low odor. I recommend to stop giving him milk as that could be upsetting the intestinal flora. Kittens are weaned around this age or earlier. I also recommend to have the stool checked for worms and coccidia as these parasites will also cause a foul smelling stool. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

Your kitten probably has colitis, which is an inflammation in the colon. This can be caused by stress, diet or changes in diet, and/or intestinal parasites. I would guess that Zia probably has all of these issues going on. It is not too early to take her to the vet. In fact, I would recommend it. Severe diarrhea can lead to dehydration which can be very serious in a little kitten. Your vet will need to check a fecal sample and may prescribe some antibiotics and probiotics and a dewormed for your kitten. I hope this helps. Best of luck. It's possible there could be something underlying such as a food allergy (protein sources can cause allergies in some pets!), or even something such as parasites or an infection causing excess gas. It would be a good idea to bring in a fecal sample to your vet to check for the most common causes of GI upset, and if nothing is found consider a food trial with your vet to rule out any possible food allergies that could be contributing.

Poor Rodney! You may want to try a probiotic mixed into his food once a day, such as Forti-Flora - this often helps with excessive gas. Another option would be to try a different food, as there may be an ingredient in his current diet that doesn't agree with him - there are companies like Natural Balance and Wellness that make limited ingredient diets that may be a better fit for him. If these things don't help, then it would be a good idea to have him checked by a vet to make sure that nothing else is wrong. Your vet may also recommend a prescription GI diet, or a hypoallergenic diet to see if this is more effective.
