How to raise a sick kitten's low blood sugar at home without honey?

Honey or karo syrup can be placed on the gums every 30 minutes to prevent hypoglycemia, but you have to be careful not to use too much if she has trouble swallowing as it can go down into the lungs and cause aspiration pneumonia. If she is not doing better in a few hours, though, I would recommend taking her to an emergency vet. Small kittens can get dehydrated very quickly, and it appears that she is very sick.

Yes if the blood sugar is low but more often people tend to give a small amount of karo syrup instead. Place some on your finger and rub it on the gums if they don't swallow it and it will absorb in.

If her temperature is low, it is important to try and bring it back up by placing her near a heat source (but not too close) and a heating blanket on top of towels so that it reduces the risk of burns to the skin from direct contact with the heating blanket. If she is not eating, you should administer 1-2 tsp of a sugar source such as honey or karo syrup and see if this helps. She may have low blood sugar. This also may be infectious and unfortunately the only recommendation for an infection would be to see a veterinarian for the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations. Applying some Karo syrup or honey to her gums and tongue will provide some rapid glucose for her body to burn. You should try to force feed her with a good kitten milk replacer via bottle or syringe but if she is weak she might not nurse. Your best bet would be to get her to a vet immediately so they can evaluate her and then treat her accordingly while trying to figure out what is going on. Make sure she is nice and warm since small kittens cannot regulate their body temperature. Their normal temp should be around 99 degrees to 102 degrees farenheit. Not sure how old she is but you need to be stimulating her genital area also to get her to eliminate. Again these little guys can get sick very quickly and it's important you get her help as soon as you can. Good luck with her. I would also advise deworming her unless that was already done. Deworming should be done every 3 weeks after 2 weeks of age for at least 3-4 times.

Rub honey on her gums. There is no set amount, rather she needs as much honey as it takes to alleviate the signs of hypoglycemia and starts suckling, I would start with a rub, then wait 10 to 15 minutes, then rub in more, and keep it up until she feels better. Ring your vet office now. There should be emergency information on the answering machine or service. The RCVS dictates that vets provide emergency service either themselves or refer to one.

If Dewey starts refusing food and acting lethargic, unfortunately there is nothing you can do for him at home besides giving him a teaspoon of honey or Karo syrup before having to rush him into the vet. Newborn kittens are extremely fragile, and any problem with them should be considered an emergency. I would find another vet to see him should he start acting like his brother did before he died.

A good alternative is pancake syrup or honey. If you do not have that, you can try to put a small amount of regular sugar on the tongue and it should dissolve. If he is able to eat some food, canned or sift puppy food is also good to try to get in him as soon as he seems alert enough to eat.
