Yes if the blood sugar is low but more often people tend to give a small amount of karo syrup instead. Place some on your finger and rub it on the gums if they don't swallow it and it will absorb in.

If you think his blood sugar is low give him some sweet syrup that can be absorbed quickly into his bloodstream. This can be light or dark corn syrup, maple syrup, or karo syrup. Give about one tablespoon. The effect of the syrup does not last long, but it works quickly to reverse a low blood glucose. Follow up with a regular feeding to stabilize the cat's blood glucose. If your cat won't eat, you can rub the syrup on his gums as it will be absorbed. Have him examined by your vet to determine the cause and to try to regulate his diabetes better.

Honey or karo syrup can be placed on the gums every 30 minutes to prevent hypoglycemia, but you have to be careful not to use too much if she has trouble swallowing as it can go down into the lungs and cause aspiration pneumonia. If she is not doing better in a few hours, though, I would recommend taking her to an emergency vet. Small kittens can get dehydrated very quickly, and it appears that she is very sick.

A good alternative is pancake syrup or honey. If you do not have that, you can try to put a small amount of regular sugar on the tongue and it should dissolve. If he is able to eat some food, canned or sift puppy food is also good to try to get in him as soon as he seems alert enough to eat.

Continue to feed him small meals and put some Karosyrup on his gums. Call your Veterinarian in the morning to discuss what they would like to change. Signs of low blood sugar are: salivating, crying, staggering, vomiting, increased respiratory rate, seizures, and or twitching. If you observe any of these things seek immediate veterinary care. My diabetic cat's blood sugar is low. Was skipping insulin right?

It sounds like Kosey's glucose is getting under control pretty well this time around as well which is great news. If you are ever worried the glucose is too low the safest thing to do is to not give any insulin so I think you did the right thing. It sounds like at this time the 5 units may be too much and you can start giving lower doses. To be sure this is the right thing for Kosey I would recommend having a glucose curve done at your vet (where multiple blood glucose readings are taken throughout the day). You may have done this in the past but it can be helpful to do it again while trying to regulate your cat. Good luck!

Take him to the emergency vet right now. This is serious hypoglycemia and it could kill him. He may be in remission and may not need any more insulin. However this needs to be checked by a veterinarian. But for now it is very important that he be seen at the ER.

There is no set amount, rather she needs as much honey as it takes to alleviate the signs of hypoglycemia and starts suckling, I would start with a rub, then wait 10 to 15 minutes, then rub in more, and keep it up until she feels better. Ring your vet office now. There should be emergency information on the answering machine or service. The RCVS dictates that vets provide emergency service either themselves or refer to one.
