Why is my pregnant cat throwing up white foamy liquid and cramping?

Hi! My cat is three years old now and she is pregnant. She throwed up a white foamy liquid today for the first time. I was thinking about morning sickness but that’s not her first pregnancy in face it’s her third one and she seems pretty upset and has somehow mild cramps in her stomach. I’m really concerned about her health but the problem is that I can’t afford getting her to the vet now. Could you please help me out?!, Thank you in advance, Best regards, Alex.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This may be caused by the space occupying kittens pushing on abdominal organs.
I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days but you can keep the meals in small portions.

I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

How to help my pregnant cat who's nauseous, vomiting, and not eating?

Oh my, poor kitty. The vomiting is likely due to very little space in the abdomen and when the kittens move they activate the pressure receptors of the stomach which then thinks it is too full, and then empties itself. You need to feed her good quality kitten food, preferably canned and feed her small amounts over several feeds (I would feed her daily ration split over 4 feeds/day). Once she had the kittens, you can reduce that to three times/day. This should help her gain weight again.

My cat threw up foamy bile after eating tuna. Why did this happen?

This is absolutely dietary related. The tuna can commony cause that. I would recommend to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken or white fish and rice in small portions every 6 hours for the next 48hours. My 7-week pregnant cat has diarrhea and vomiting, is this normal?

Decreased appetite is normal in the later stages of pregnancy. So no worries there, as long as she is eating portions of her food. Loose stool can also occur, but should return to normal after a few days, and she should still have normal energy level and not hide. Hiding in cats, when they typically are social cats, is usually an indicator that something is wrong. I would see how she does in the next day or two, and if the diarrhea does not resolve, then have her stools checked by your vet. She may have intestinal parasites, or it could be loose due to stress from the pregnancy. I hope that Mia's stools return to normal soon. Best of luck moving forward and take care. : )

Poor kitty! She could have a severe GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, a foreign body, or pancreatitis. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. My pregnant cat has diarrhea. Is it normal or should I see a vet?

It sounds like your cat has a case of colitis, or an inflammation of the colon, resulting in an increase in the volume and frequency of stools.    Colitis can be caused by many different things. Some of the more common causes include intestinal parasites (most likely in a pregnant cat), dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, irritable bowel disease, pancreatitis, a foreign body/blockage and viruses.   I would recommend taking your cat in to your vet to be examined. They will likely want to check a stool sample and may recommend some lab work, a dietary change, and/or antibiotics.    I hope this helps.
