My pregnant cat is overdue. When should I take her to the vet?

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 1 month old

My cat is pregnant, she is on day 62 today however there seems to be next to no signs of labour at all, she's lost the fur around her nipples and you can still see/feel the kittens moving around, she is still eating plenty but there is no sign. How long after her "due date" should she need to be seen by a vet?

Don't panic! Unless you know exactly when she ovulated, you don't know exactly when she is due. Cats have an average gestation of 65 days from the time of ovulation, and she may have ovulated days after she was bred. Hang in there, and watch for signs of nesting, restlessness, and inappetence.

If a pregnant queen is stressed, this can delay labor and delivery. Have her examined by your veterinarian to confirm all is going well. An abdominal ultrasound can put a number to the litter as well as confirm size. Provide a quiet, warm area for her to deliver her litter on her own. If she does not deliver in the next day or so, have her rechecked by your vet as a C-section may be indicated to save the litter and her.

She is due within the next 2 to 3 days including today. Give her a towel in the box and basically let her do her thing. Do not disturb her too often, just look in on her once in a while.

As long as she appears happy and healthy, eats drinks, poops and pees, there is no problem. Once she starts going into labor, she should have the kittens within a relatively short time. If you see her straining for more than 1/2 hour without producing a kitten, it is time to take her to a vet. If she has a discharge that smells bad, there is a problem and she should also be seen by a vet. Any discharge near, during and after giving birth should be odor-less.

The gestational period for a cat is about 9 weeks so it is possible she is close since you can not be certain about the time she conceived. Keep the areas set up and don't worry that she's laying around in the floor vs her comfy "bed" she will lay where she is most comfortable. However once she has the kittens you may want to consider confining her and kittens to a smaller area where the kittens can't wonder off (like a welping box)

Hello, if Lacey got out and is no longer going into heat, it is very likely that she may be pregnant. Normal pregnancy in cats is about 65 days, give or take a few. In the later stages of pregnancy you will see her abdomen become enlarged and she may develop enlarged mammary glands as well. These signs would be highly consistent with being pregnant. Alternatively since it has been 2 months, she should be able to undergo an x-ray to see if there are any kittens that she could be carrying. She's due very soon, as cats gestation period is generally 58-64 days give or take. Their uterus is actually V-shaped, and each horn can lie along either side of her belly. Once she has weaned this litter of kittens, I strongly recommend getting her spayed to prevent further litters and a number of health problems that are more likely to occur if she is not spayed.
