My pregnant cat has calicivirus. What should I do if vet can't treat?

It is true that if she has the virus, the vaccination is not likely to help much, but it is still recommended to vaccinate her as the vaccination will protect her from other diseases. i do not recommend giving her any medications unless directed by your vet, especially since she is pregnant. Some medications can not be used in pregnant animals. If she has an infection and needs an antibiotic than you could ask your vet if he/she has Convenia which is an injectable antibiotic that lasts 2 weeks so you would not have to give it orally.

Most of the time Calicivirus causes symptoms only in the upper respiratory tract: the nose and the mouth and back of the throat (it can affect the eyes as well). Even though it sounds like Daisy may have a congested chest this may be referred noise from her upper respiratory tract. Since she seems worse it is also possible that her secondary bacterial infection has traveled into her chest causing pneumonia, which is a rare complication. If you feel she is having labored breathing not related to a clogged nose, or if she has been very lethargic or uninterested in food it might be a good idea to see a veterinarian on an emergency basis to rule out pneumonia.

Hi there. George may need antibiotics if his virus infection is leading to a secondary bacterial infection. These can explain weight loss, etc. He may also have ulcers around or in his mouth making him uncomfortable. It mate be that he is sick enough for hospitalization and fluids, etc to make him feel better. I hope this helps.
