My kitten is picky and only eats one food. What should I feed my cat?

Thanks for using petocach! I'm sorry to hear your cat is having issues with food preferences. Unfortunately, he will need to eat kitten food in order to get the nutrients, vitamins and minerals he needs to grow. I would recommend trying a variety of wet kitten foods to see which he may like, and occasionally warming them in the microwave to help it smell more enticing. He should ideally be eating two meals of kitten food a day, which can be supplemented with small amounts of additional protein but kitten food should be the mainstay of his diet. Good luck!

It is completely fine to feed you cat only dry food if that is all she likes. If you want to give her canned food as an occasional treat any brand should be fine. Choose one brand of food, or a couple flavors of the same brand, and feed that exclusively. Pick a food that has a named protein source of animal origin. Avoid by products or meat meals. Stay away from store or discount brands as these typically contain low quality ingredients and more fillers. Feed on a consistent schedule as opposed to free feeding or allowing grazing throughout the day. Do not constantly change diets if/when your cat does not eat. This can create a finicky eater and may lead to gastrointestinal upset.

Some cats prefer one type of food over another. I would just leave dry food out for him to nibble on and then feed him small amounts of canned food twice a day. He has plenty of teeth that he should be able to chew small kibble. He will begin to eat more dry as he continues to get older and gets hungrier. I hope this helps!

Picky eaters can always be frustrating! By 7 weeks of age, Ryoko does not need to nurse from her mom, so any nursing may be delaying her need for kitten food. If possible, try to separate the mother cat from all kittens for several days. During that time, offer canned kitten food mixed with finely shredded chicken to try to tempt Ryoko to eat, then gradually decrease the amount of chicken mixed with the kitten food. If she does not care for canned food, you can try offering dry kitten food. She won't starve herself! I hope this helps and that all goes well!

Whiskas is not a good quality food, if you plan to change the food, which i think is a good idea, try to switch to a different brand such as Orijen, Acana or Taste of the wild. if this doesn't work try Royal Canin, most cats love it and it is still much better than Whiskas.
