Is it normal for my older male cat to lick our younger male kitten?

Your cat may be trying to bond with your younger cat, and this is normal and healthy. Make certain you don't see any signs of skin infection or ear mites or other physical issue going on, however, that would require veterinary attention. Sometimes ear infections will trigger excessive grooming among pets.

If you are concerned that the male cat may injure the kittens then I would recommend you keep them separated at all times. However, I will say that it is normal for older cats (usually the momma cat) to teach the young kittens discipline and proper behavior by mewing at them, bopping them and nipping at them. It sounds like this may be a soothing technique that he continued from kitten hood. The comfort he obtains may be similar to nursing. If you don’t want this behavior to continue then every time he starts I would remove yourself from the situation. Overtime it will become less and less. It looks like your dog loves your kitty. Since your cat is a lot smaller than she is there maybe a bit of mothering involved. It is nothing to worry about. It gives your cat comfort and also gives Lulu comfort.

I would not be too concerned about this behavior unless it becomes consistent. Your older cat may just feel like being alone or your younger cat may just be feeling off. Hello. There is no immediate danger with this behavior & the male kitten will eventually kick everyone off him as he matures. Because of the self-grooming cats do I do not recommend placing a bitter spray on him. Just anytime you see one of the kittens doing this, just gently remove her & try to distract with a treat. This is a form of affection that cats typically display. This is a common area for cats to be affectionate towards and there is nothing wrong with that unless it bothers you. If you want to stop this behavior, you will need to let Kirishima know that this is an undesired behavior by saying "off!" and rewarding him when he stops the behavior.
