My older cat is hiding and scared of our new kittens. What's wrong?

It is wonderful you adopted a new cat. New environments can be very scary for certain cats. I would recommend making sure that MIllie has easy access to a litter box and food. I also would make sure she has a safe place to high and get up to a high place (like cat tree). It also can take type for her to adapt to her new space and feel more comfortable. She is still very young so I would just recommend moving slowly with her. I hope that helps

That is perfectly normal. Your cat is likely afraid of the other cats in the household and the smell he is not used to and the new place. It would be best if your friend could keep your cat in a room separate from the other cats, so that he will feel safe to come out to eat and use the litter box.

From Gati's point of view moving house is a very scary experience. Cats are very sensitive to stress. Let her hide where she wants and I would suggest putting her things in that room so she feels safe. Make it easy for her to access food water and litter in this room. Give her some space and time and she will become more comfortable and gradually explore the house. You can get diffusers for cats that release pheromones they can help.

If he won't come out from the couch, leave him be for now. Leave food and water out, and he likely will come out to eat and drink while you are sleeping tonight. Should he come out when you are there, quietly praise him and give him treats. Each time he comes out, do this and it will encourage him to come out more. Give it some time, he should adjust. I would not be too concerned about this behavior unless it becomes consistent. Your older cat may just feel like being alone or your younger cat may just be feeling off. It can be very normal for the cats to have time they want to spend together and times they prefer to be apart. As long as they are not fighting or hurting each other in any way they should be fine. It's a typical fearful cat behavior, one of my 3 cats is exactly like that, she pretty much lives under our bed during daytime, she rarely comes out. when the night falls she comes out and this is pretty much when her life begins. i'v had another cat in the past with almost identical behavior, i believe it is a combination of a character with a possible trauma in early life. just over a month though is not enough time to determine if this is how he is going to be in the future, he might still snap out of it and become less timid/fearful.

Moving into a new home is often frightening for a kitten, and it will take time for Amber to get used to her new home and you. I would give her lots of love and attention when she approaches you, including treats. This shows her that coming up to you is a good thing. Give her treats when she allows you to touch her. I would not try to approach her yourself, allow her to come to you. As she becomes adjusted to her home, she will eventually allow you to approach her.
