My cat is scared, hiding, and not eating after moving. Is it normal?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 10 lbs

Hello, we moved yesterday to a new house and our cat is very frightened. Now she has hidden behind a couch. She is not eating nor drinking water. We are worried. Is this a normal behaviour in a cat? Thanks

From Gati's point of view moving house is a very scary experience. Cats are very sensitive to stress. Let her hide where she wants and I would suggest putting her things in that room so she feels safe. Make it easy for her to access food water and litter in this room. Give her some space and time and she will become more comfortable and gradually explore the house. You can get diffusers for cats that release pheromones they can help.

Yes, most likely your cat will go back to normal in it's original house within a few days. Some cats do not like changes in the environment. Make sure to provide food/water and litter box to your cat. Talk quietly to her and encourage her to come out from under the bed. Shutting the door (as long as she has access to her food/water/litter) may help her to feel more secure. I hope this helps.

Moving can be very stressful for cats, and that can cause a change in behavior, but I would have Rosie checked out by a vet as soon as possible. It is actually quite serious when cats don't eat, as they will develop a fatty liver that is fatal without treatment. It could be a medical illness or dental problem leading her to not eat. I'd take her into a vet today. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

He is probably just really stressed. It is best if you leave him alone, don't force him to interact or you may traumatize him more. Be sure he has access to food, water and litter box that is close to him. Be sure the house is as quiet as possible. Moving into a new home is stressful and scary to a kitten,. Leaving food out in the bathroom for Gigi, she will eat. Top it with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) or tuna in spring water to tempt her to eat.

New kitten hiding under bed, not eating. How to help her adjust?

Congrats on your new kitten! Moving to a new home is very stressful, and adding on flying to this new home, and Adelaide will be very stressed. It will take her a couple of days to get used to her new home. She may be coming out at night when you are asleep, and I would make sure to leave out food and water at all times for her to have when she decides to come out. I would leave her be for now, don't try to get her to come out to you, she will come out in her own time. Leave out some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) or you can soak her kitten food in tuna juice to tempt her to eat. When you do see her moving around, don't make sudden movements towards her, or make a big deal of it. Ignore her until she comes to you, and gently give her pets and praise. Be patient, it will take time for her to adjust, but she will get used to her new home :-)

I would give her some more time. I would also entice her to come out with some new toys and even an interactive laser. I say give them at least 2 weeks to become fully comfortable with the new house. Poor Daisy! It sounds like she's quite stressed and upset about the move. Moving to a new home is extremely stressful for some cats - it can take several days or even weeks for them to start to feel comfortable in a new place. I would recommend setting up a separate room for Daisy with her food and water bowls, litter box, scratching post or cat tree, etc. and leaving her alone until she's ready to venture out into the rest of the house. You can also try using a Feliway pheromone diffuser along with a natural calming supplement like Zylkene or Composure daily to see if this helps.

My cat hides under the bed after moving. What can I do?

Poor BB! I would recommend putting his litter box, food and water bowls, etc. in the room with the bed and leaving him alone with the door closed for now. He will eventually come out to eat, drink, and use the bathroom when things are quiet and he feels comfortable - many cats wait until nighttime when everyone is asleep to do this. A Feliway pheromone diffuser in the room may also help. It may take a week or two for him to be comfortable enough to come out from under the bed for more than a moment or two, so I would be patient for now and give him time to adjust. Once he's acting normal again, you can transition his food and water bowls, litter box, etc. to wherever you would like them to be in the long term :)
