My newborn kitten is mucusy and crying. Should I take it to the vet?

You need to keep it warm, use blankets, fan or a hot-water bottle. Try to put her with the mum and see if he will feed from her. You should put his face right on the nipple and try to 'attach' him. If he is not able to feed from the mum you will have to syringe-feed or bottle-feed the kitten with a cat milk formula. After feeding you need to massage the belly with a warm cloth to stimulate urination and defecation.

Crying can be because he’s hungry, cold, or has to go potty. Make sure you are feeding him often enough with kitten milk replacer if he is not nursing his mother. Stimulating him to pee and poop with a warm damp cloth around his tail should be done several times a day to keep him regular. Poor baby! I am worried that she is having diarrhea and an increased urgency to go or severe constipation. Since she is so uncomfortable and so tiny and young, I would strongly recommend to have her seen by your vet as soon as possible. Your vet will be able to determine the cause and get her started on the proper meds to help her feel better. They will also be able to give her fluids if needed. This could be urine scalding. At her age, she needs to be stimulated to urinate and defecate after each feeding. This is done by gently wiping a warm, moist cotton ball or washcloth around the genitalia until elimination occurs. Clean her up and dry her thoroughly afterwards. The mother will typically do this, but if she isn't, the job will fall toyou. .

I would take her to a vet if she seems in distress or is having trouble, just to make sure there isn't an issue such as a structural problem or illness causing her inability to meow. Vets see pets from birth to end of life, so they should be able to examine her, even if she is still very little. You can either take her in a carrier, or if she is very tiny, wrap her gently in a towel or blanket and carry her in your arms. You can also bring all the kittens and mom together in a carrier for a full checkup if you do not want to separate the kitten from its mother.

You can probably wait until the morning to take him in to your regular vet. Just try to keep him calm and comfortable until then the best you can.
