My newborn kitten's brain is exposed. Will she survive?

Although the pictures are not very clear it does indeed look like there are significant birth defects in the facial structure which may not be compatible with life. I recommend a full physical exam by a vet as soon as possible in order to assess long term prognosis. Birth defects can arise for many reasons including genetic issues, exposure to toxins during development of kittens or in some cases for no apparent reason at all. I would consider neutering the mother to prevent passing on any genetic predispositions in the future

Poor kitty! Unfortunately, a lot of the time when it comes to neurologic trauma time and small signs of improvement are what you are looking for. X-ray only tells us if there are fractures in the skull and are very difficult to see the full scope of the trauma as so many structures are superimposed on top of each other. The best diagnostic to give you an idea about extent of trauma and prognosis would be an MRI. It sounds like the kitten is making some progress, but only time will really tell us how much progress he will make. He may never be completely healed and functional, so you will also have to decide how dedicated you can/willing to be for a potentially special needs kitten. Oh dear poor Silvia! From the picture, I can see the open wound down her back. If that was present at the time of birth, my best guess is that this is a congenital defect that she was born with. If she is truly paralyzed, she may also have difficulty urinating or defecating. Regardless, you really do need to take Sylvia to the vet for a physical exam. Veterinarians cannot euthanize a pet without your permission. That said, in some cases, euthanasia is the best option to prevent any suffering, particularly if there is a poor quality of life. At the time of Sylvia‘s exam, her vet will be able to discuss any possible treatment options, diagnostic testing, and her quality of life with you. From there, you and the vet will be able to discuss the best option for Sylvia. I hope that all goes well.

Poor Kitten!! Without examining your kitten and seeing the results of any diagnostic tests, it is hard to determine the prognosis. I am assuming he has a diaphragmatic hernia that needs to be repaired. I have treated cats that have survived that surgery but your vet is probably the best person to give you advice on the prognosis. You could always take the kitten to a board certified veterinary surgeon and get a second opinion. Whoever kicked your kitten should be charged with animal abuse. That is really sad that someone would do that to an innocent kitten.

I'm really sorry to see this. This backwards head position is a condition known as torticolis, which is seen with serious conditions that affect the brain. This could be due to an infection or nutritional deficiency. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do at home when they have this condition. The kitten will need veterinary treatment in order to keep him from dying. However, I'm sorry to say that this condition is quite advanced, so even with the best treatment, he may not survive. Poor baby! It looks likes she might have a ruptured corneal ulcer so she needs to be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. It is difficult to determine if the eye can be treated based on just the picture but there is a chance she will not be visual in that eye and enucleation may be the best choice. Please call a vet and schedule an appointment.

Poor little thing. The appearance of the abnormal eye is concerning. There may have been enough trauma to the eye to have caused glaucoma which can be very painful and should be addressed. In many cases, mild head trauma signs will slowly resolve and the fact that she is already showing improvement is a great sign. It is still best to have her checked out, have the eye evaluated and also begin her kitten preventive care requirements suck as deworming and vaccines. Thank you for helping her!
