My kitten has severe internal injuries. What are the survival odds?

Poor kitty! Unfortunately, a lot of the time when it comes to neurologic trauma time and small signs of improvement are what you are looking for. X-ray only tells us if there are fractures in the skull and are very difficult to see the full scope of the trauma as so many structures are superimposed on top of each other. The best diagnostic to give you an idea about extent of trauma and prognosis would be an MRI. It sounds like the kitten is making some progress, but only time will really tell us how much progress he will make. He may never be completely healed and functional, so you will also have to decide how dedicated you can/willing to be for a potentially special needs kitten. The problem with hernias is that the internal organs can become twisted and cut off blood supply. That is very painful and will lead to death. This is something that needs to be fixed with surgery. Depending on the severity of the hernia, it may be an easy fix and not a risky surgery. Only the vet treating Flash can tell you if it's risky or not. I hope this helps!

Ouch! Poor kitten! Please take the kitten to a veterinarian as soon as possible. They are delicate and when stepped on a broken bone or internal trauma can happen. At the very least a veterinarian can prescribe pain medication. Please remember, there are no safe over the counter pain meds for cats or kittens.

This is definitely a situation where I would suggest taking him to a Vet asap. Many injuries are not visible to us after a "crush injury". Your kitten could have broken bones, internal bleeding, or even swelling in the spinal cord or a break.

I'm sorry to hear about the ordeal you and your kitten have been through. I would check your kitten over for any obvious injuries first, such as severe fractures or obvious bleeding. I would make sure that it is walking properly and does not appear to be having any issues with balance or equilibrium. If none of these seem to be a problem, going to the vet right away might not be necessary. If over the next 24 hours, you start to see any issues that may be attributable to pain or shock, have your kitten checked out by your veterinarian. Lastly, make sure that your dad has no more access to your cat since he clearly doesn't know how to handle one properly. If this means finding it a new home, it may be in its best interest.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! O am very sorry this is happening! I think it depends if your cats skull was crushed or he just has head trauma. Animals can survive concussions and head trauma. The neurologic system can heal but it can be very very slow to do so. It depends on whether you have the emotional and financial means to give your cat time. I have seen animals that have been hit by a car have blood from their nose and ears. If your cat is unconscious, starts to have seizures or suffers cardiac arrest I would consider human euthanasia. I would need more details on what surgery your Vet is thinking of doing.
