Why is my new mom cat shivering and rejecting some of her kittens?

It could be Hissy has more kittens to give birth to, but without seeing her in person, I can't say if this is normal or not. To be safe, I would take her and her kittens into a vet right away to get checked out.

Any abnormal behavior or sign of illness that persists, worsens or other signs develop are an indication to see your veterinarian. It's possible she has a kitten still inside of her or other problem going on. Your vet can gather a history, perform an examination and then advise you on any diagnostic tests needed. Possible tests include blood/urine tests and imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound. Once a diagnosis is made a sound treatment plan can be implemented. Good luck with Mimcha and happy holidays.

She may not be producing enough milk which could lead to dehydration or malnutrition of the kittens. The vet can assess why Menace isn't eating and make recommendations if the kittens should be bottle raised or are ok to stay with their mom. Good luck, I hope she's better quickly.

Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! I am sorry that you are going through this! It is common for mother cats to move their kittens, especially if stressed and they feel that their kittens are at risk. I wold try to leave her be and try not to stress her. You can check on the babies once-twice a day. Her laying on them is some what normal. Unfortunately there is no way for me to tell based on the picture if the kitten will survive. Sadly some kittens don't make it and we don't know why. It is called "fading kitten syndrome." If Tinkiee left him/her behind she may know it is sick. You can try to hand raise the kitten by bottle feeding it with Kitten Mild Replacer (KMR). You have to bottle feed it every 3 hours and stimulate it to urinate and defecate by gently wiping it's anus and genitals with warm wash cloth after feedings. Below is a link to the milk replacer. Nibbles is so cute! There could be a few causes for the symptoms you describe - migration of internal parasites, viral infections, injury. I strongly recommend having her examined by your vet to try to determine why her leg is painful, and why she is shivering. I hope this helps.

It could just be that she isn't quite sure what to do. Just make sure she has plenty of food and water and a litter box available, as well as a comfortable place to put the kittens. If she isn't eating, seems lethargic, or has a rectal temperature over 103 or under 100, then she should be evaluated by a veterinarian to see what could be going on.
