Why is my male cat peeing red? Is it a UTI or serious problem?

It's probably due to a bladder inflammation, it's very common in cats and is usually related to some sort of stress. it is a big problem especially in male cats, i strongly recommend taking him to the ER as he is in danger of getting blocked, which will be life threatening.

Poor guy. He likely has a urinary tract infection or cystitis (inflamed bladder usually due to stress). I would recommend taking him to your vet for a urine test to determine which is present so that he is treated appropriately. As long as he is otherwise acting normal and able to urinate at will, then it isn't considered an emergency at this point. Getting him seen on Monday or the day after should be ok. Poor kitty. Cats can have blood in their urine as a result of stress, bladder stones or even an underlying urinary tract infection. As long as he is urinating readily with no excessive straining, vocalization, or lethargy, he shouldn't be in any immediate danger. I would recommend taking him in to your vet within the next day or two to have a urinalysis done so that he can ge properly diagnosed and treated. Until then, continue to monitor him for any of the symptoms that I mentioned above, which would warrant an emergency visit to the vet. Otherwise, a regular vet visit is appropriate. Hello Melissa. Blood in the urine is an indication of significant inflammation in the urinary bladder. Because a male cat's urethra is so tiny, it is very important to have this looked at as soon as possible to prevent a possible blockage. I would make an appointment with the veterinarian as soon as possible so that Sable does not wind up being blocked & unable to urinate. Smokey may have a urinary tract infection or a blockage. This is an emergency. Please take Smokey to your vet who will determine whether there is a blockage of his urethra that prevents him from emptying his bladder properly. This can be caused by crystals or mucus or cell debris. If he is blocked he will need to be hospitalised, be put on iv fluids, and needs a urinary catheter after unblocking to enable flushing of the bladder and enabling urine flow. It's not likely a UTI, cats tend to suffer from a condition called FLUTD that mimics a UTI but it's actually related to stress and doesn't involve a bacterial infection. in most cases it advances to a urinary blockage and the c at can die within several hours of that happening. you must take him to the vet urgently for treatment.
