You most likely cannot change to habits of LB in the litter box but you could invest in a litter box with a lid or higher sides. This will help keep the litter inside the box and less messy. Hope that helps

I'm sorry to hear that Kiki is having these problems. I think there are a few things you can do. First, you might consider trying some different types of litter. Something like pelleted litter ( http://www.felinepine.com ) might work better for her. I would also make sure that the boxes are not covered since that can make it harder for cats to get positioned correctly. You may also consider an automatically cleaning litter box to make sure that the box is always clean. I would also consider having a veterinarian or groomer shave the area under her tail (called a sanitary patch) to help prevent litter from sticking to her fur there. Good luck! Tidy cat is a very good brand of cat litter. Try this as an alternative when needed but try to stick with the cat litter that Jackie likes the best and is used to. Most kittens will outgrow this messy phase. Adult cats tend to be very clean animals. You may try a different type of litter to see if that helps with the mess or even try something like an automatic litter box. I would recommend using shredded paper in her litter box instead of sand or litter if she has infected toes. Do not apply topical medication. If she is licking her feet excessively she may need an e-collar or something to help prevent her from licking. You could try a corn or wheat based litter like World's Best Cat Litter or Swheat Scoop, or a wood litter like Okocat if you want to avoid clay litter. You could also try a clay based low dust litter like Dr. Elsey's. Even though she is used to pellets the transition to a clay litter could be fine - I'd start by putting out a litter box with the new litter while still keeping the old one and if she starts using the new one take the old one away.
