Why isn't my 5-week old kitten playing or running and has weak legs?

Usually kittens are rather playful at this age, but occasionally some are not very playful. It's good to check that she's not unhealthy though, because this can cause a decrease in activity. Check her gums - see if they are pink or white. If they are white, then he may have anemia. Check the belly - see if it's tucked in or is it round and distended. If it's round and distended, then he may have worms or other intestinal diseases. Most kittens get worms from their mothers, so if he has never had deworming medication, then it would be good to do this. Make sure he is eating and drinking well. Also make sure he doesn't have diarrhea or vomiting. These things can indicate that there is a disease causing him to be less active. The best thing you can do is have a veterinarian take a look at him. They will be able to tell if there is something wrong with him. I hope this helps.

I'm sorry to hear your kitten is not doing well. Despite her size and age, I would recommend she be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. The swelling in her leg could be due to infection, a congenital issue, trauma or another underlying issue. She needs to be eating regularly in order to maintain adequate blood sugar levels and grow. These are certainly concerning behaviors for your young kitten. I would be suspicious of intestinal parasites causing the problem, especially if he/she has not yet been wormed. I would recommend taking your cat in to the vet to be checked out and make sure nothing too serious is going on. Hopefully it is something simple like parasites that can be treated easily. I am so sorry about your kittens. Weakness and impaired movement are not classic signs for one specific disease process in kittens. Typically, we are concerned with infection, nutritional deficiencies and congenital abnormalities in neonates. The queen and kittens need to be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Young kittens should be playful and active and generally don't grow out of this phase until over 12months. I recommend a full vet check to rule out any underlying medical conditions or pain resulting in the lethargy and weakness

It is normal for kittens to play really hard and then sleep really hard. At this age I expect them to sleep more than play. This changes as they get a little older. If she is eating at least 1/2 cup of food a day, she may be just getting full and realizes she doesn't have to eat it all at once and this is also okay. Sometimes kittens will graze on grass and plants out of curiosity. Just make sure you don't have an toxic plants in your house/yard. BUT if you think she is eating less than this and doesn't play much at all and you think she is getting weak then I would see your vet for an exam. She may have something else going on like an infection or parasites that needs to be addressed. Your vet will be able to do a fecal and possibly bloodwork if needed. I hope this helps!

At the age of nine months, most cats are essentially full grown. They might still grow a tiny bit, but at this point you are seeing their adult size basically. Some cats are larger than others with the smallest ones around 4 to 5 lbs and the largest around 18-22lbs. If he is having issues with mobility in his hind end, I would have a veterinarian examine him for any pain or neurologic deficits. At nine months old, it would not be very common for a painful condition to arise though juvenile inflammatory conditions can occur. If he is currently not experiencing any symptoms, now would probably not be the best time to have a vet look at him as they will not be able to see to what you are referring. The next time this occurs, schedule a visit. I would also consider the possibility of a tick borne disease in any case of lameness in a dog or cat, particularly those that are not using preventive products.
